Changing out of wedding dress?

I'm on the fence about changing before the getaway- I would really like to have pictures of the getaway with sparklers and me in my dress, but I would also really like to not have to ride in the car in my dress for 45 minutes or deal with hauling it around on the honeymoon.

What's everyone else doing?

I'm changing into the dress I wore for my bridal shower. We have about an hour (if not more) drive ahead of us, and I want to be comfortable.

Could you get the photos of you in your dress, then sneak back in or change elsewhere before you really get on the road?

<div>I've thought about this, but I really don't think there is any way we could manage it without it being kind of weird. Our venue has a single long drive- As you come in the gate, parking is to the right in a field, a bit further down is the barn (reception venue), and a bit farther down from that is the main house where I will be getting ready day of. I think it would be strange to get in the car, drive to the house, and then drive back out 20 minutes later. Unless we go towards the gate/ only exit, I feel like it would be silly.</div><div>

Does someone live close by that you could change into another dress?  Or are there some guests that have a hotel rooms somewhere they would let you "borrow" their room to change in?

Well, you could always drive out the gate and then drive back in after a 5-10 minute joyride!  I'm pretty sure guests won't be paying attention anymore after you guys leave.

<div>Ooo- I like the hotel idea! I was thinking we could maybe go to FMIL's house, but it would be kind of out of our way. But I could get my MOH's 2nd hotel room key, change, then leave the key and dress in the room.</div><div>
    </div><div>Thanks!</div>

<div>This is what I would do. Our "sending off" is also sparkles but I'm having it at 10:30 just for pictures and then the wedding doesn't end until 11:30pm. That way, people can participate without having to wait until the reception is over. </div><div>
</div><div>EDIT: I didn't read all of the posts, sorry. I would still do the 5 min joy ride and then come back and change. </div>
