Question about guest list

We are shooting for a 100 people at our wedding. But I doubt all 100 of them will come. Do I invite extra people just in case 10% of them say no?  Because Im paying for 100 people I want to have 100 people. So even if some say no, I kind of want back up. What are you doing?

I'm a little confused...do you have to pay for 100 people no matter what?  I think if you can only afford 100 people, only invite 100 people.  If less show up, that's just less money you have to spend. IMO it's a little "tacky" (for lack of a better word at the moment) to do this, but I suppose you could have a "B list" (i.e. a list of second choices).  In other words, you have your original guest list, and once you get some declined RSVPs, you can send out the invites to your B list.  You have to be REALLY careful that no one finds out they're on the B list though...you don't want to slight anyone.

we want a small intimate wedding so we both agreed that 100 people would be great. We can afford to do more but I kind of want to keep it small. Anywho, where we are having our reception, weather we have 50 or 95 people show up, we are still paying for 100.
  • Hmmm, that's a little tricky then.  I think the general statistic is that only 75-85% of guests invited will actually attend, but it really depends on how far people will have to travel (i.e. guests from OOT will be less likely to show up), and what day of the week you're having it (i.e. more people will show up for a Saturday ceremony than a Sunday or a weekday).  I'd say if you're going to invite more than 100, only do about 5-10 (and talk with you venue to see what happens if 101 people show up).

  • You should really plan on 100% showing up, you don't want to invite more and not be able to feed them.

We are inviting about 125 people and probably about 100 will show up. We will let the caterers know how many have RSVP'd by a specific date and we will only pay for the ones who RSVP yes.

Invite 100 only, with no B list. If some decline, then they decline. It's very rude to have a B-list.

  • Does your venue make you pay for 100 guests outright? Normally some let you pay the balance closer to the date once you know the final count
