When to Register??

When is everyone registering? I hear from some people not to do it too early because stock changes, but then on the other side some people buy gifts far in advance, so what are you all doing?

Re: When to Register??

  • There were certain things I know won't change, like my KitchenAid mixer.  I just wanted to get it out of the way and I will most likely update it close to my bridal showers etc.  But I am already register and I was probably within the first month that I was engaged simply because people were already calling my mom asking where I was registered.

  • I'm waiting a while to register just because FI and I are still looking for a place to live, and I think I can decide better what we will need/want to register for once we've found a place. No one has asked us about registry stuff yet, though, so I'm not really in any hurry.

  • We're registering in November.. that way family can buy off of it for Christmas :)

  • I probably wont' register until the Fall also.  Vince sees no point in registering, period, and I hope to change his mind about that between now and then.  He thinks everyone should just give us cash and we get what we want. *sigh* Silly boy!
  • i registered last sunday! its sooo much fun(:

i asked the staff at BED BATH&BEYOND if it was to early &they said absolutely not...

were moving into our first house this coming June so im hoping my close family &friends will start hitting the list for our house warming party they have already
said thats a great idea so i get two shots my housewarming&shower(:

wedding im not gunna let people know i have registered anywhere so you can get cash only &everything that people didnt get you for your shower BB&B takes either 10 or 20 percent off everything that left on your list!!

    xo.

Ditto this!  We have a lot going on right now, so this is one thing that can wait a while!

I registered at one place last month since family was asking me to so that they could get gifts for birthdays, holidays, etc.  I'm going to wait until the Fall to do my second registry.

  • I need to start registering soon. I read on some of the other boards what PPs mentioned about family buying some stuff for holidays etc. Where is everyone registering at, I wad thinking BB&B, Macys and Mikasa for some dishware.

  • FI and I registered two months ago.  I figure the sooner better because some of the bigger things people may not buy for us but we have birthdays and christmas before our wedding and people can buy us things off our registry so we can get pretty much everything we want.  iIt was slightly difficult since we don't have a house we had to pick our color schemes right there on the spot for our kitchen and bathrooms.

I'd be careful with this.  If you really want cash, get your family and wedding party to spread the word.  I honestly don't like just giving money, just my opinion, but other people will probably feel the same unless they hear through word of mouth that it's what you prefer.  However, there will always be people who want to buy you a gift no matter what, and if they don't have a registry to go off of, they will just buy you what they "think" you need...i.e. stuff you would never, ever want and can't get rid of or return!
  • We're planning or registering at Crate & Barrel, and probably Target (so there will be gifts that everyone can afford), but probably not until sometime this fall.
  • We are probably registering at Macy's and Williams Sonoma. We'll probably do it in December or January.

<div>I think this might depend on where you live.  In my social circle and my family people tend not to give actual gifts at the wedding, just money.  The gifts for us are usually given at bridal showers.  I mean obviously some people are going to buy gifts but in my family and social circle its not commonplace to give a wedding gift, just cash.</div>

We registered at BB&B, and we'll also be registering at Macy's. We might do a third one also, but we haven't decided yet- maybe Pottery Barn?

  • we'll probably start building our registry sometime over the summer/early fall. I think we'll do an online registry that incorporates a lot of stores so we can register for more unique items since we already live together and have a lot of the traditional registry items.

  • We did ours months ago, and so far only a few things have been out of stock, but some things have come back. They are not live yet so only I can access them, people cannot search for them.

I suppose I should probably wait for my FI to come home before I run out to register for stuff but I'm itching to get going! We'll probably register come this fall and I think we decided on BB&B, Target, and Home Depot. I know that last one is silly but we met there and he is in need of some power tools so it has meaning to us!
