Is this normal???

So I am looking into cake bakers and I came across one that is requires people to have a major credit card to secure an appointment for a tasting/consultation. Is this normal? In their fine print, it says that if customer fails to cancel appointment within 24 prior to.. they will a $50.00 fee. I have never heard of a vendor asking for a credit to secure an appointment... any thoughts on this?

Re: Is this normal???

  • They must be in high demand.. I haven't heard of bakers doing this, but I know of salons, dentists, etc that do this.

  • I had a bridal salon do that when i made my appointment. Klienfelds does that as well. Popular and not afraid to lose the business if you dont want to fork over an appointment deposit

  • Yea I'm going to say they are in high demand as well.  I wanted to get a cake made for my FI when he came home from deployment from Carlos Bakery (the one from the show Cake Boss on TLC) and they did the same thing.  I think it was a $100 deposit for an appointment and then they would put your deposit towards whatever cake you had made

  • i also had a bridal salon tell me the same.
