Anyone know about liquor licenses?

So all this talk about RDs got me thinking...as long as we don't have a bartender and it's on the FIL's property we won't need a liquor lincense for the RD...right? Because we aren't selling it? Does anyone know anything about this? Just wondering...

Thanks.

  • You should be ok. Think backyard bbq, how often have you had a keg and not thought twice about it. Same deal, However just be mindful of how much your guests drink and take away those car keys if you need to.

I really think that's excessive and intrusive. You'll probably also offend some guests.

Without a bartender, you, your FI, and your FILs would be held responsible should something happen at the party or to someone on their way home.

  • In most states it is only illegal to give alcohol away if it’s done in a business.  As with most states you aren’t required to obtain a liquor license on privately owned residential property. So short answer you should be fineLaughing

    great thanks laddies.

@pantherRN : our families like to part party a bit at these types of events...it's either that or no liquor at all. Plus we are close enough to everyone there that I don't see it being an issue. thanks for the thought though, I can definitly see your point.

  • Just one more question, what's he/she going to do if someone blows over the legal limit? Here it's 0.08. That's two, maybe three drinks. Will they be arrested if they try to go home?

    Not flaming, just curious.

No, since he'd be off duty and but they won't be allowed to drive...period.
One of two things would happen:  1. they'd stay at my InLaws (depending on who it was) or 2. we'd have someone take them back to their hotel room.

However, I really still don't see this as being an issue. Other RD we've been to have done this, so I'm not really stressing....
