NWR: Need prayers!

I just got the news that my grandma has a brain aneurysm.
She's had a bad headache for about 6 weeks, the doctors told her it was a sinus infection.. then they thought it might be Valley Fever, which is wasn't. And so finally yesterday they did an MRI and found that she has a brain aneurysm.
I would really appreciate your prayers for her and my family. If she gets surgery before it ruptures she should be okay, but they aren't telling us when they can get her in, so it is a scary waiting period right now, hoping it doesn't rupture.
Thanks ladies!

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma.  I do want to ask what you mean by "they don't know if they can get her in."  Surely she's been admitted into the hospital, right?  I used to work for neurosurgeons and they worked with Interventional Radiologists for aneurysm treatment and clipping.  They always did this stuff in an expendient matter as there should always be someone on-call at the hospital to do this.

Your grandma and your family are definitely in my thoughts and I hope for the best outcome.

<div>I just talked with her and she has an appointment on Thursday just for a meeting, they haven't even set up surgery for her yet, because supposedly they're very busy there, and really aren't giving her the care she needs. She said if after Thursday they don't get her into surgery within the days after that, she is going to the emergeny room because she is in so much pain. So I am not sure why they don't have someone on call like you said.</div>

  • Lots of T&P for you and your family.

It is possible that if the aneurysm is very small or small, they may not consider it an emergent situation. I'm sure she is in a large amount of pain, but when it comes to neuro stuff small changes can cause a huge amount of pain and discomfort.

If it is not small, I hope she sticks to her guns and goes to a different ER or different physician quickly.

Also, this (clicky) is a pretty good article on brain aneurysms and their treatment.

  • Thans ladies, and PantherRN, I hope that is the case that it is small, and unlikely to rupture soon. It just scares me that it has been 6 weeks since her pain started.. and that seems like a long time to have an aneurysm to me.. but I'm no doctor.
