Grooms Cake??

Is anyone else thinking about doing a grooms cake?? I've been playing around with the idea for awhile now. A good friend of mine just got into the cake making business (she's amazing) and is giving us one heck of a discount on a cake for 150 people and I've been considering getting a cake for my FI. He absolutely loves football, he was the QB in high school and would love more than anything to coach high school football. I was thinking of having a football jersey made with black and red (his HS colors) frosting, the #2 (his number), and then our last name. I've spoke with our cake gal and I told her how much FI loves butterfingers and she said she would play around with making a butterfinger cake. Does this sound corny or like a waste of money?? Thanks for the thoughts

We're doing a groom's cake. We are buying a cake package from the local bakery, but it won't be anything special...just the normal deal LOL.

We won't be having one because we went over on our budget in certain areas, and FI doesn't think it's necessary- so we're going to save the money. We're already going to have alot of wedding cake to begin with!

I don't think it's corny at all though- if you have the extra money and think your FI will appreciate it then go for it

i bake cakes for a side job so i think i will make my FI a cake with a red sox theme and have it at the rehearsal dinner.

I don't think we will be doing a groom's cake because FI doesn't want one, but I think they are a cool idea.

We will, but it will be a surprise to him. He's a huge Star Wars nerd, I'm going to get a cake made by our baker in navy blue and I'm getting a princess Leia and Hans Solo figure from the toy store and 'wedding' them up to be on top.

Nerdy, but I know he'll love it.

I think I'm going to surprise him with one if we have the room in our budget for it. When we were cake shopping FI suggested we have a "zombie snowball fight" wedding cake (sometimes I don't know where he comes up with these things). Needless to say that will NOT be our wedding cake! So I'm thinking if we can swing it I'll surprise him with a zombie grooms cake. I'm thinking two tiers of red velvet with zombies crawling up the cake and this on top:

Yeah, I don't think the idea sounds corny at all. I feel like the point of a groom's cake is to show some part of his (or both of your) personality(ies). I know we're having one, and the exact shape is TBD, but I know it'll have something to do with the Florida Gators, since FI has been a fan since birth, and we're both graduating from there next Spring. I think the football jersey sounds great!

I will be doing a Groom's cake but with a twist. My FI doesn't like cake a whole lot and prefer's a cookie cake instead. Some people do cupcakes well we do cookies!
