My FI met more of my family this weekend. It was nerve wracking for both of us because of some stuff going on in my life with my ExH....I guess the best way I can explain things is by actually explaining it all... Honestly, I am not really an open book type of person because I hate being judged but in order for everyone to get the full jist of things, I should explain. And maybe by doing that here I'll have some where to vent when needbe?
With that said... long story short, I am not officially divorced from my ExH. We are legally separated but I am still waiting on things to be finalized....which could be as late as December of this year...I am hoping that is the latest. Anyway, our marriage was technically over in late 2007 but I couldnt leave because I had to get my ducks in a row first. I just wanted to be very smart about my divorce from him since we have children.
And along the way, the ex was slowly also trying to bring me down. We are on okay terms...for the kids sake. Its not like we fight all the time but deep down I know he hates me and my FI.
My family knows about the divorce and why I filed. They also know about my boyfriend. However, what most of them dont know is that he isnt just a boyfriend... he is a FI. I have kept that a secret from most of my family because I needed them to adjust to the changes first... my family is all very close.
I knew my FI from a former Mustang club we were in and things just happened. At first my family was mad at me and I was basically burned at the stake for everything until they realized WHY things have happened like they have. It took not only myself but my mother to finally stand up and tell everyone to open their eyes and realize that FINALLY after 7 years of being in Hell... I am finally happy.
...So there is the background to all of this...
Much to both mine and my FI's surprise, my family was completely welcoming of him and for once things finally flowed like they should. They all really liked him a lot.
I took one of my aunt's aside and told her that in response to her FB comment to me... I was the one looking at wedding dresses with my best friend because I'm engaged and getting married next year. Then I took my cousin aside, told her and asked her to be a bridesmaid of mine... which she said she would 
So slowly my family is finding out and they are all really happy for me. I was even told by all of them this weekend that there is a glow and smile on my face that they havent seen in years.
