To cruise or not to cruise?

FI and I are having a hard time deciding where we want to go on our honeymoon. We've recently started talking about going on a southern Caribbean cruise. Neither of us has ever been on a cruise, so we truly don't know what we could expect. After doing a little research, I think we would go with Royal Caribbean (although they don't seem to be booking for May 2012 yet). So ladies, what are your thoughts on going on a cruise for your honeymoon? For any of you who did choose to cruise, which cruise line are you going with?

Re: To cruise or not to cruise?

  • I've only been on a cruise once and it was Royal Caribbean with a group girlfriends.  We all had a blast, for us it was go go go and non-stop partying.  For me I wouldn't want to do a cruise for my honeymoon but alot of people do.  It's totally up to you and what you want.  BTW we all had a blast Laughing

  • we originally thought about doing a cruise for our honeymoon, but none of the ones we wanted sailed on a convenient date. a lot of them left sunday morning and we just didn't like the idea of leaving the reception to head to the airport.
we might instead go to an all inclusive resort. that way we have the relaxation of having everything already paid for, but we can arrive and departs on dates that work for us.

We're doing a Royal Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon! I've never been on a cruise before so I'm really excited about it! FI has been on a couple and loves them.
It's definitely one of the most economical honeymoons you can take.  And I liked the idea of getting to see 3 different places since I've never been to the Caribbean. I figure this way we get the relaxing time on the ship and then some fun, active excursions when we're docked. The one piece of advice people gave me was to splurge on an ocean-view balcony room   :)

  • Sad: I'm a Floridian and have never been on a cruise..yeah, I know

BUT I have had a ton of friends go for their honeymoon and LOVE it, and you can create that as part of your registry through the cruiseline depending on which one you use :)

  • LOVE cruising and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Royal Caribbean :)  The Southern C cruies are so nice and I recommon those over an eastern or western. Ususally with RC they leave out of San Juan so you can even spend a couple days there beforehand and explore as it really is a cool place.

  • I think a cruise would be fun. I've been one one cruise before to Alaska. The only thing that I would be a little worried about is children running around everywhere. I wanted my honeymoon to be adults only, all inclusive, so a cruise was out for us.

  • I have never been on a cruise before but my BFF has been on 3 or 4 to different parts of the Caribbean, she had a blast! Personally a cruise is not FI and my thing but if you want to and it is something you would enjoy then I say do it!

  • I loooove cruises! I've been on four. We are going on one for our honeymoon, just haven't booked it yet. I've been on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean in the past and Royal Caribbean is AMAZING! They are so nice and the ships are beautiful. Loved the service! We will probably cruise with either them or Carnival.

  • I'm going on a cruise for my honeymoon. I have been on one before but my FI has not. We are going on Carnival. It was amazing when I went before I absolutely LOVED it. Such a great family atmosphere but still very romantic. So much to do and see even while on board. Much more relaxed and laid back from other ships from what I hear. Carnival already has May 2012 dates posted!!!!

  • My FI has been on a cruise before (it was actually his honeymoon from his last marriage), but I haven't.  I know there is a lot to do on cruises and you get to see a lot of places but some people tell me they didn't really get to relax.  We will probably take another all inclusive vacation...They are my favorite!!  I think all-inclusives and cruises would even out in price for us since cruises don't include your alcohol, and yea when we are vacation we tend to have a *few* drinks lol =]  I'm sure either way you two will have an amazing time!

  • We've been on many cruises (and got engaged on one), and of all the lines, Royal Caribbean is the best.  They just started a cruise honeymoon registry which looks interesting.  It is the easiest vacation you'll ever take and the people are great.  We've met lots of honeymoners.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

For our honeymoon, we're going to go on a cruise, but it'll be a "small-ship" cruise (only about 400 people) and super high-end (we'll have our own butler!).  We haven't decided on the exact cruise yet, but it'll be in the Mediterranean.

    Happy planning!
