Do I need my shoes to order the dress?

I'm buying my dress next weekend, but I have no shoes in sight — do you need them to order the dress? Or is just having them by the first fitting enough?

  • I think having them for the first fitting should be fine, unless you're taller than average (i.e. taller than 5'8" ish) as you might need to order a longer length.
  • Agree with Gabby, I ordered my dress (would take 3-4 months) and at that first fitting I'll bring either the shoes I find or if I haven't found any yet, the shoes closest to that height

  • I plan on bringing shoes that are likely close in height to what I will buy to try on dresses.  I'll definitely wear the actual shoes for the first fitting.  You should be good!

  • I agree with PP... I will be wearing shoes close to the ones I will be wearing...

  • I went to DB and I tried on dresses with a heel similar to the one I would be wearing. I agree with PP, unless you are super tall or super short it shouldn't matter too much.

  • I don't think really any brides have them before their dress, just because you don't know what dress you will pick. Just have them by your fitting!

  • I haven't bought my dress yet, but I have tried them on. I just took heels with a similar height to what I will be wearing. I'm pretty short (5'1") so heel height is pretty important.

  • I brought shoes with me when I was trying on dresses, but I didn't need them.  Hopefully when I decide on my dress and start going for fittings, I'll have my shoes by then.
  • Thanks for the advice, ladies! I'm pretty short, too (5' 2"), but haven't decided whether to go with flats vs. heels with SoleMates on the bottom, as I'm getting married on grass. But I imagine a standard size will be too long for even me-with-heels, so they'll be tailoring it anyway.
