Wow! I really wanted to see the room full of cookies. Cute though, I laughed just trying to imagine my dad baking. That guy is a trooper.

oh my!  I'm afraid this might be my mom in 4 months! She is calling all the relatives asking if they can contribute to the cookie table. lol. Everyone has to make 9 dozen of their specific cookie- so many cookies!

Wow, we had 2 doz/guest, and I thought that was a ton! Can't imagine baking all of those.

Way overkill to me.  And you know all those cookies didn't get eaten or taken.  I wonder what they did with all of the leftovers.

That's a nice gesture on the part of the parents, that they are willing to make all of them. I have to wonder if the bride and groom wanted that many, or the parents wanted to make that many.

The only part I don't like is the probable waste, like E mentioned. I'm sure they could have used their time and money in a better way, but to each his own.

Perhaps the bride is like me - she needed a way to keep the parents out of her hair :P

We had 2 doz/guest, and honestly they were gone by 2 days after the wedding - people stopped by the day after, ate some cookies, we went to a deck party 2 days later and the rest got eaten.

oh my gosh! I agree - total overkill, but I bet it looked neat.

We had about 1500 cookies and I thought that was a lot (but I was wrong!).

I know, we had cookies leftover from our wedding even after everyone took some home.  My mom kept some for us for after the HM and then we ended up giving a huge box to DH's cousins and their BFs who drove in from NYC.  They ate the ENTIRE box on their way home...it had to be 25 dozen cookies, at least.  Ha!

We went to a wedding on January 2nd in Philly for the daughter of good friends of our family.  My mom went out a few days early to help with the set up, RD, etc.  She called me around 7 the night before the wedding telling me that they needed more cookies and asked if I could bake some.  ;)

We had about 6 cookies per guest and had zero leftovers (I don't even think many people took any home). We also had a candy bar and had zero leftovers from that, too. I was actually sad I had no extras to eat :p

I saw this on the news while I was home over break. It just is so overkill to me.

I only had 8 cookies per person and I had a ton of leftovers. I can't imagine the money that went into this, but hey, I guess it isn't the worst thing you could do for your kid! :)

I heard that any cookies left were taken to food pantries and
    soup kitchens....a great gesture.

    Holy moly!  Overkill.

Also- what does this mean?  "You have to be part hunky to be able to do this."  I do not know what that word means in this context.

Jen, it is referring to someone who is Hungarian.  Not sure why that would make them more likely to bake cookies.  Actually, I think it is a bit of an offensive term.

Um, hmmmm.  Thanks- yeah, that is weird.  I gathered it was something derogatory because of the "pardon my French" preceding it, but could not for the life of me figure out what it meant!

Jenn - KR is right, it's a derogatory term.  But, it's used not only to refer to Hungarians, but any people of Eastern European heritage.  My mom's parent's were Slovak and Lithuanian.  At the mills my grandfather was called a hunky by WASPs that wanted to make him feel like dirt.  My dad (who's 100% Irish) uses it towards my mom to tease her (it's not very nice though).  I HATE that term and got in a huge fight when DH's cousin (who's Italian) used it towards me.

Plus, if you ever watched All in the Family, it used to be used towards any lower class caucasians by African-Americans (George Jefferson used to call Archie Bunker a hunky).  I didn't find it funny then either.

Shannon, thank you for the explanation!  Yeah, it sounds not-so-nice, and I still don't see the correlation with cookie baking.

I didn't even think about the connection there that you mentioned in the second paragraph.  I had heard that word spelled with an "o" instead, and didn't even think about it  Huh!

Edited: I am not allowed to say that second "h" word by the knot!
