May 2012 Weddings

*Handmade Wednesday

Happy Wednesdays May-ladies!

I know that some of us have this info in our bios and are just getting started with 'wedding thing making'...

What is something you plan to handmake for your big day in May?

Being an artist, I feel I should make just about everything, but I had a lot of fun making our E pic props with our wedding date and some canvassed icons to use in the shoot (also did monograms, STDs & invitations & favor cards..will do: cake topper, OOT bags, too many to list!)

Re: *Handmade Wednesday

  • I am not making a single thing.  I was going to do all of the flowers including center pieces, bouquets & arrangements.  But since we are going away theres no point for me.  :)

  • I'm going to assemble my invitations and favors. Our favors are going to be bud vases with placecards tied to them with ribbon, and will hold a single tulip each (to double as centerpieces!)

I'm also going to make our guestbook on shutterfly- not quite handmade, but almost. I might decorate the cover...

I'm not completely sure what our table numbers will be, but they will either be terracotta pots with the numbers stenciled on, or I might enlist my brother to weld numbers onto horseshoes... which might be too much effort.

I'll be making our card box... and possibly a couple other things, but I'm not sure yet. I'm not the most artistic/creative person in the world. That's why I became a scientist, lol

We contracted a graphic designer to design our stationary and we are assembling all that ourselves. The programs I designed (booklets, they are a Martha Stewart Craft with some adjustments...programs wrapped in a B-E-A-UTIFUL black fabric...

We'll be assembling a few other things, but not 100% making them from scratch. You're more creative then I am...cutoes to you! (probably spelled that wrong, lol...sorry)

I'm a scientist, too!   Yay for nerds!   What area do you work in?
  • I'm doing a TON of DIY stuff.  I'm definitely doing our STDs, invitations, escort cards, programs, ceremony decorations, favors, boutonnieres, and most likely centerpieces.  I'm just debating on whether I want to have real flowers or paper flowers.  I'm pretty crafty, so I know they would look "professional" (and not like a second grader glued some construction paper to a pipe cleaner).  If I discover I have a knack for making paper flowers, I may also make all the bouquets.  I knit, so I decided to make these cute vase sleeves:

They will be avocado instead of fuschia (our wedding colors are navy and avocado green).  I'm thinking I'll add a twine bow somewhere near the top, and the flowers will probably be white.

I have so many ideas floating around in my head...I'm sure if I wrote them all down I would overwhelm you ladies! LOL

  • I will be making our invitations and RSVP cards, also I found this great pattern to make pillowcase dresses for my little flower girls so I am going to try my hand at that as well.

  • As of right now I am not DIY anything, but if I have time I might do a card box but I am not sure, I am a big anti-pack-rat so I have no idea what I would do with the card box after the wedding. Maybe the one my sister used a few years ago is still around. If I did make one it would look like this:

Not sure what color it will be as I have still not decided on wedding colors.

  • I will be doing our paper products and CPs for sure.  I have about a thousand other ideas but I'm just so darn indecisive when it comes to this stuff.  I can never decide if it would just be cheaper (and less of a headache) to just buy what I want, or if it's unnecessary and I should just scrap the whole idea all together.

Once I get into planning a bit more, I'm sure I'll get more specific with my DIY projects.

  • I already made our guestbook.  I will be printing the invitations on my own(they are from michaels).  I will be doing my own place and seating cards.  That is all I can think of right now.  But I'm sure more random things will pop up that I want to do.
