FI is finally going suit/tux shopping this weekend!

His brother is coming into town for the weekend so they're going to go shopping. Based on what FI has told me he's looking for, it sounds like he wants a tux. Our wedding is not very formal, although I ended up with a more formal gown than I was planning on so maybe that's a sign we should bump up the formality a little.

My main issue is that I was planning on using the heavy-duty plastic silverware and paper plates that are included in our catering costs, rather than paying extra for real stuff. (This is assuming they work well cutting the food we select when we have our tasting later this month. If they break we'll spring for real silverware). If FI is in a tux, the plastic silverware immediately feels wrong to me.

IF he does decide to get a tux instead of a suit, should we plan on getting real silverware and dishes? Or am I overthinking?

  • My caterer also includes the "heavy duty" disposables and charges extra for the real stuff. For the longest time we were just going to go with the disposables to save money, but after awhile I started envisioning my wedding more and we switched over to real because it suits our venue better. What is your venue like? The only disposables we are doing now are napkins and the wine glasses which I think will be fine with the venue. I would take that into consideration more than the tux, but that's just me.

  • The venue is a renovated barn. Nice hardwood floors and funky chandeliers, but still a barn.

  •  I vote overthinking. As long as the disposables are sturdy enough for the food you serve, I don't see an issue, unless your venue is super formal/you are planning on having a true black tie affair.

We had disposables at our wedding, and FI wore a tux. However, I didn't see what he and the groomsmen would be wearing until the day of, and he wore a tux at a 4:00 pm ceremony, so our marraige is probably invalid anyway and you shouldn't trust my opinion. Tongue Out

*clutches pearls* But thank you. I'll chalk it up to overthinking and save a few bucks.
