Renting out your wedding dress?

Have any of you ever rented out your wedding dress following the wedding? The dress I just purchased is by Elie Saab and I just can't justify hanging onto it forever when I could potentially get back some of the money that was spent on it. I could always sell it, but if anyone has had luck renting their dresses, it might be interesting to consider since that way I wouldn't have to let it go immediately. How does the rental process work?

Experiences appreciated!

</div><div>Never heard of this.  Do keep in mind that when people rent things, they often don't take as good of care of it since they know it's not theirs.

  • I personally wouldn't do it, but since you have an Elie Saab (oh how I wish I could have!!) it doesn't seem as crazy of an idea. Are you set on keeping it though? Because you could probably get quite a bit for it by selling it outright instead of renting, and then you wouldn't have to worry about drycleaning, rips and tears, etc each time it's rented. Also, it might be tricky to find people exactly your size who will want to rent it. At least if someone bought it they could have it altered.
  • I'm so jealous that you have an Elie Saab! I'd sell it instead if you don't want to hang onto it.
  • Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'd love to hang onto it if at all possible, if only to look at ocassionally and sigh. Seriously, I want to cry when I look at the lace and beading. ;) That's why, if renting it out is an option, I'd consider it. But I will sell it if I can't figure out a practical way to make some money back on it. I don't know how I was so lucky to wind up with this dress. It would make me so happy to see others enjoying it who might not have been able to otherwise.

If you really want to keep it and look at it from time to time, I wouldn't rent it out.  You really don't know what condition it will be in when it is returned to you each time.
