Ushers attire

I'm about six and a half months out from my wedding and we're starting to look into tuxes for the guys. My question is are ushers supposed to match the groomsmen? Is it ok for them to wear something different? I'm concerned because FI's nephews are ushers and their dad is the best man. I just worry that it's a lot of money for one family to spent to rent 3 tuxes.

I just asked mine to wear a button up shirt and slacks. Just made it easier on everyone.

Mine just wore a nice dark suit that they already owned.

 Ours rented the same tux as the groomsmen, although I agree there's nothing wrong with suits for the ushers at all. I could totally understand 3 tux rentals being a lot within a family for sure, so maybe a suit would be your best choice when thinking of cost.

I vote for same outfit as the groomsmen. If a groomsman got sick or was otherwise unable to attend at the last minute, there would be someone already properly dressed to take his place.
