Costume Ideas for Bride and Groom Needed Please :)

My fiance and I have decided on a Costume reception!!  We are trying to brain storm costumes that would be simple and quick to transform from ceremony to reception.  We were also thinking of famous couples so we wouldn't have to change.. For example; anyone that has seen Oz yet, the Wizard wears a suit and top hat and the Good Witch of the North wears a white dress that could easily be a brides gown.  I also tried on a red and white bridal gown, that could easily be made into the Queen of Hearts...And my fiance can be the Mad Hatter.  I also tried on a beautiful wedding gown...that in yellow looks like Belle....but fiance not too thrilled with the Beast idea. haha   Although I like the idea of the Bride of Frankenstein...the hair might be a bit much for the ceremony! lol   We would REALLY appreciate any costume ideas.  Thanks for your help :)

I got nothing, but mostly because this is just not my style at all.  Except to say, I hope you are not going to ask your guests to dress in costume.

Also, please don't type in that color if possible. It makes your posts very difficult to read.
  • Agree with PP, please don't require your guests to dress in costume.  It's a wedding, not a Halloween party.
  • I also wouldn't be comfortable at a costume reception as a guest. I want to dress up in nice clothes at a wedding, not dress like I would for a Halloween party.

You're looking for ideas that you can transform into after the ceremony, but your guests will have to sit there the whole time in costumes. What about the bridesmaids and groomsmen? Won't they have to be in costumes for the ceremony then, as well? Or is there somethng they can "transform" into that goes with their dresses and suits/tuxes? I think this is just going to be a hot mess.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Is this a genuine idea of is it just a super late April Fools joke?

I am sorry but just no.  A wedding should not involve costumes and crazy themes.  Just have a nice wedding and then through a huge halloween party in October.

  • My suggestion : Go to the reception as a bride and groom.
    Praying for a miracle!
  • I don't think you should expect anyone to wear a costume, except perhaps the wedding party.  If you do expect them to, I would offer to:

let them select their own masks or costumes
let them change into it after the ceremony
pay for it, but they pay for the ceremony attire (or something like this)

And, I would do a theme (IF you MUST) of Venice/Italian carnival. And I would do it just with masks, but not change into entirely new costumes.  Or, if you must do costumes, do Venetian Renaissance wedding attire-resembling costumes.  These are the kinds of masks I mean, which I think would be reasonably well paired with wedding attire.

  • Thank you to those that offered suggestions.  I am actually surprised by the negativity and lack of creativity.  At times I have seen very outlandish ideas on here, if I have nothing nice to say...I don't say it at all.  Frown
  • I would not want to attend a costume wedding, and I LOVE costume parties. If you want to do a theme wedding them do the Venetian mask thing. That is an idea I could probably embrace!
  • I like the mask idea, or a crown/hat type costume... something that can be easily removed.
What about a Princess Bride theme? I've seen some fun weddings like that, and just the bridal party is dressed up.
Maybe stick to an era, like the roaring 20's or something like that instead of full of costumes.
