can a designer dress be different based on salon?

I am looking to try on a specific designer gown and I was looking at upcoming trunk shows. There is one at kleinfelds but Im wondering if they may be more expensive than other salons for the same gown. Anyone know??

It's possible. Retailers do not have to stick to one price so the price can vary.

  • yes, dresses and discounts can vary...except for Maggie sottero, from what I hear.

Also, if you live between two counties, look at tax. I saved a considerable amount of money by buying my dress in one county vs another ...just food for thought, as well
  • Kleinfelds is notoriously expensive, however with a trunk show there would likely be a discount offered. Might be worth a look.

    This.

But remember that the sales tax in NYC is 8.5%.

[QUOTE]This is what a friend told me about Kleinfelds. The friend is a buyer in New York that used to be in the bridal biz, and is not now. Kleinfelds gets a number of companies to make exclusive collections that they can up price big time. They also price up many lines. For example, if you go there, note their prices on Maggie Sottero. So a lot of lines they have as exclusive are made by regular designers, such as Mori Lee, and many other lines. The friend was only sure of the Mori Lee thing. I am not knocking them, just that you need to be market aware these days. Have fun there and you will see some of the people you have seen on TV there.

I don't doubt for a minute that Kleinfelds up prices their dresses. They are a well known, televised salon. When you get popular and people start coming to your salon just because of the name and not because you carry completely different dresses then any other store in the country you can definitely get away with major up pricing. This is why I think it is silly to go to Kleinfelds just to say you got your dress from there. You are almost guaranteed to find the same dress at a salon near your home town for less cost.
