Texas heat and satin gowns?

I have only tried on one with my FSIL at her request that was a lace mermaid gown. It was the perfect fit but not what I was looking for.  I have appointments in a few weeks to go with my other bridesmaids and mother to seriously look though. But I don't want to look at gowns that I love but be unable to wear them due to the location/climate of our wedding :/

We are getting married in Austin TX in May 2014 and so it will be HOT!!! Probably in the 90s... I am always drawn to satin mermaid style gowns and that is what I would love to wear but I don't want to have sweat stains all over my dress because of the heat. The ceremony will be outdoors and the reception will be in a mansion that is basically open to the outside so I won't be in AC the whole night. It will be an evening wedding so will start just after the hottest part of the day probably

What are people's thoughts on wearing satin gowns in heat? Are there other options that work better but would still be sleek and pretty?

Looking forward to thoughts/suggestions!

Thanks!

  • I've never even thought of getting a satin dress too fancy for me. But I could imagine you can try different types of satin. If I'm not mistaken, and I could be 100 backwards dutchess satin is a lighter version of satin, you can try that..or even other fabrics that shine like satin but aren't. Goodluck!
  • Thanks! I'll keep that in mind :)
  • You should be fine! You are likely to sweat regardless of what you wear, and you'll have good friends to help you out if it starts to show.

If you're really worried about it, ask your dermatologist about Drysol, which is a prescription antiperspirant. You can just use it for the day or the week of, and you won't sweat a drop. Not expensive with insurance, IIRC.
