Colored sendoff dress?

I've been searching and searching for a short white send-off dress, and am having a really hard time finding something I like.  I recently found a really cute pink dress with some white in it. FI tells me to go for it, since to him, a white sendoff dress is just some requirement that I made up for myself. :P

I could keep wearing my wedding dress, but that complicates things with our travel plans and returning his tux, etcera, etcera. Anyway. Is it weird to wear something not white for your wedding sendoff? Will I regret it looking back at pictures? Has anyone else done this?

I'm in the mindset where I don't want to spend more time and energy to find a short white dress that people are going to see me in for like 2 minutes. I'd rather get something cute that I could wear again...but admittedly am getting tired of looking, so some advice/perspective would be appreciated!

</div><div>Why can't you wear your wedding dress out as the sendoff and then change afterwards?  Are you hopping on a plane immediately after the reception?

<div>That was my original plan, but FI is convinced that it will be too hard to get the tux back to his best man to return it that way. No plane until the next morning, but an hour drive back to where we live (which is closer to the airport). And if FI is changing at the venue, it will look weird if I don't. Hmmm.</div>

  • I would just get the pink dress.

  • Honestly I wouldn't bother, even if your FI is changing. Could he change into a suit of his own if you're really concerned it will look odd (I don't think it will though). I wanted to stay in my dress as long as possible on my wedding day! You only get to wear it once :)
  • I personally think you should wear what you want, and not feel constrained to wear:

    something white
something labeled 'wedding', including your wedding dress
    something fancy

...I'd go with what you like, what suits your budget, and what is appropriate for the venue and weather.  A lovely sundress or skirt and blouse separates seems fine.  I'm actually planning to repurpose the rehearsal dinner outfit in a similar way.  Whatever I buy for one, I will be changing into before the dance-party portion of the reception begins.
