Wedding Woes

My Wedding Veil

So, there's another one of these color powder 5K races in 3 weeks.  I had wanted to skip this one, b/c we're getting ready for a 60 mile bicycle trail ride at the end of May.  DH has the fever now though, so we're doing this one.

While we were talking about it, I told him I wanted to wear a big tutu then.  I said, "Big!  With sparkles, just like my wedding veil......wait".

I think I'm going to make my tutu out of my wedding veil.  We're going to have a tutu making party and everyone has promised to give me a shot of bourbon and hold my hand while I cut into it.  Realistically, it's been sitting in a bag for 5 years now.  It's gold, so it's not like I have tons of friends who want to use it.  Plus we seem to be at the age of second weddings for friends, so most of them aren't doing the big bash anymore.  <---talking myself into it.

Re: My Wedding Veil

  • Oh and DH had the brilliant idea that I need to have a headband with a little veil on it, so that I can tell people this tutu is made out of my wedding veil.
  • I would have to be drunk and then I'd cry the whole time, even though it's just a stupid veil and really doesn't matter.  I also can't stand the thought of chopping my dress up to make a christening gown either, since it's been sitting preserved in a box for almost 6 years.

  • I know Ali.  One of my costume designer friends is pushing me.  He said, "You have fabulous fabric, that is just sitting there.  You love it and it's not being seen or used for anything.  If it were just a bolt of fabric you had like that, not being used, you'd be mad".

Yeah, i would.  But, but but....
  • I can't stand the thought of parting with my wedding dress even though I've done nothing but move it around in the closet it's been in for 6.5 years.

But the veil tutu idea is awesome.

I sold my dress a few months after the wedding. I cried in the parking lot of the UPS store for about 3 minutes, and then I was done. Sometimes I wish I had it, but I've pretty much never been back at my wedding weight, so it would only make me feel bad.

I have no idea what happened to the veil. I might even have thrown it away shortly after the wedding. (It was DIY - just tulle with stitching around the edge so it wouldn't fray. So, not a $200 veil.)

I'm glad I did it then. I think it would be harder to give up now, somehow.

  • You're brave.  I think it sounds like fun.

I lost my veil somehow over the course of my wedding day--I thought my MOH had it, she thought I did, never turned up, etc.  And I'm still a tiny bit sad over it, even though it would just be sitting in a box now anyway.
  • It's just a veil, V.  Fabric, and honestly if you ever do something again, you know you'll want a new one.  I would.

    doooo eeeet!

I looked for mine recently...can't find it.
    NBD, I made it.
  • Oh man.  I couldn't do it.  My veil serves an important purpose by sitting in my closet and remiding me that I can wear it any time I want to.  Tulle is not that expensive. I'd make a fresh tutu and wear the veil with it. :)

  • Ha, Zsa!  I had a chapel length, so that would be really hard to do.  Which means I can have a very full tutu (snickering).

    O-face, you're right.

I think I'm going to figure out how to wear my tiara and veil, then the wedding tutu.  This could be hysterical fun, really  I just have to get over it.
  • I'm wearing my mom's veil, so I wouldn't be able to do anything like that, and I'm donating my dress back to the place where I bought it (Brides Against Breast Cancer) when I'm done. The Color Run is pretty much the best damn thing ever though -- I have my shirts from it hanging in my garage to make sure the colors REALLY stick.

Here's my aftermath picture from last year:

  • I had a friend who said that if you spray the shirt with the adhesive from a craft store and let it dry, they'll stay through washing.  I intend to make sure I get my shirt wet so that the colors stain next time.  They did all come off in the washer.

I couldn't do it.  My veil was my favorite part.

I have no doubt if you start hacking you'll make something fabulous though.
