For discussion - Man tries to cut off his arms at home depot

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/04/man-tries-to-cut-off-his-arms-at-california-home-depot/

Did you hear about this?  I have so many thoughts.

Why does Home Depot have the display saws plugged in/functional?  I bet they stop that.

I hate that he did this in public.  So many people were affected by seeing/experiencing this.  Yes, I do think that's more important here.  I don't support suicide or anything, but hey, if you're going to do this, why do you have to ruin someone in the process?

  • *mumbles*

    cost him an arm and....

  • It was a hand saw, so it wasn't plugged in.  He probably just took it out of the protective packaging and went to town.  Obviously, he has some issues.  It's really effed up.

  • Ugh, I skipped right over the hand saw part.
  • Personally, I find the hand saw even more horrifying.  Makes me think of Merle from TWD.

He's lucky that paramedic was there to save his life.  I'm sure he's locked up in the psych ward now.

  • Yes, the fact that it was a hand saw makes it worse.
  • If you cut one arm off, then how do you cut the other one off? This is what I'm thinking. And also, Monty Python with the Black Knight. "A mere flesh wound!"
  • Also, my morbid curiousty wants to know how bad the first arm was if he had the strength to try to cut the second one off.

  • I can't conceive of what level of mental illness a person must be at to attempt this.  It makes me so horribly sorry for them.

And I would be wrecked as an employee or customer observing this.  I do not deal with blood awfully well.  I tend to go into, Action Now mode when I'm involved in a crisis, but afterwards, I'd probably throw up.
  • I can't imagine how he did it.  He cut them down to bone.
  • This is terrible!  I would be scarred for life if I witnessed it.

That being said, I am gigglesnorting at my desk @ Oface & PMeg - because that is right where my mind went as well!

I have lots of logistics questions.  How does he start that?  How does he get far enough along without someone noticing?  Why? And yeah, how does the second arm start?

lol, I was thinking the same damn thing.

  • I never thought I'd see anything like this discussed at a wedding website.  It is horrifying, but I feel compassion for the man.  These types of occurances usually involve individuals with extreme forms of disorders like Schizophrenia.  My dad is police officer and had a similar experince with a teenager who cut of his arm in keeping with his interpretation of the scripture regarding casting away the sinning hand.  What he did surely scarred people, but I doubt his intention was to damage anyone but himself, and I doubt he had the capacity to think rationally about the effects of what he was doing.
