Wedding Woes

I need skin help

My skin is spazzing the eff out.  I'm getting giant zits all around my mouth.  My forehead is super bumpy- not really zits- just a really bumpy, not smooth, texture.

Current skin regimine is CeraVe mild face wash and Cetaphil moisturizer in the morning and Neutragena benzoyl peroxide face wash and 10% benzoyl peroxide on zits.

If that old wives tale about a girl stealing your beauty is true, this kid must be a dropdead gorgeous girl because I feel hideous.  This kid seriously hates me.

Is your skin dry?  I'd probably use the Cerave at night since it's milder.  In fact I might skip a night wash and use Pond's instead.
  • Nope, I am super freaking oily.

i would suggest a dermatologist, and probably stop using the benzoyl peroxide. your skin may be drying out and overcompensating by getting more oily.

it'll probably pass in a few weeks, hopefully.

try neutrogena foaming face wash and a light moisutrizer. at night, just rinse your face with plain watrer and blot dry with a clean towel.
  • I wouldn't spend too much money on new products.  Being pregnant can really mess up your skin, and just when you get one symptom under control, another one pops up.  Welcome to pregnancy.
(And - I'm not one to believe old wives tales, but I think this one has some truth to it.)

ditto on new products. i just happen to think neutrogena works great on bad skin. but it will pass, so i definitely agree with AF not to spend your money worrying about it.
  • In my experience the benzoyl peroxide does jack for hormonal breakouts so you might just want to drop it. Your skin is going to get oilier due to hormones so you might need to try something less moisturizing. I'm currently using Korres Milk Proteins cleanser day and night, with Simple light hydrating moisturizer in the AM, and my eye cream/face serum in the evening. I'm doing light moisturizer because of the extra oil (and the past two days I've actually skipped my moisturizer and used a water based BB cream).

Honestly, with my last pregnancy it didn't matter what I did for my skin. I still broke out. Gotta love the pregnancy hormones.
  • i've been dealing with hormonal acne around my jawline for a while now. I finally went to the derm and it seems to be helping, but many of the meds they prescribe you can't take while pregnant, so not sure how much it's going to help to go.

I hope you skin settles down soon.

  • I'm so hesitant to go to a derm because I went for YEARS and over the counter stuff and BCP did the best job than any rx they ever gave me.  And way cheaper too.

I've always been oily and probably always will be.  At least, my mom and grandma don't look as old as they are thanks to that.

I'll try the cerave for night.

ah. my derm appointments cost all of $40 OOP, and I have  an HSA account to cover OOP things. so I go whenever I need to, which is kind of often.

just start making a list of things to thank the kid for when s/he forgets to be grateful to you for all you have to go through. ;)
  • LOL, you mean like the doctor yelling at me for losing too much weight for the first time in my life?

    sure, that's a nice one.

but more like, "you made my skin gross, so the least you can do is clean your room!"

Definitely don't spend a ton of money.  I probably wouldn't see a derm either.  I made an apt with a new one.  Between making and going I fund out about Max, but kept the appt anyway. There wasn't much he could do for me.
  • My skin is about the best it has been in my life right now.  I'm attributing it to a combination of Clarisonic and Epiduo.  I went to the derm and he suggested BCP.  I told him that I hate BCP and he gave me Epiduo and something else. It didn't seem to do much for the first few months and then I ran out of the 2nd script and was lazy about getting it refilled and noticed that my skin improved so I dropped it.  The past 6 months or so it has been magical - not even hormonal breakouts but that might be more from the shriveling of my ovaries.  I started with the Clarisonic about the same time, so I don't know if it is the combination or one or the other, but I'm not switching any time soon. Cleanser is Cetaphil.  Moisturizer is Nuetrogena oil free.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

  • I would also consider your diet.  Have you had cravings for stuff that is historically going to cause acne?  I know you want what you want when you want it, but maybe look into thinking about your skin when you fiend over the Ben and Jerry's chocolate chunk brownie bust or whatever?
  • Yeah, my sweet tooth is gone.  Mostly eating a lot of salads, soups, and wraps.
