Wedding Woes

Morning randomness

1.  I've lived in this house 9 years with the same microvwave and just realized if you press the 'cook time' button and the 'add 30 seconds' button, it will cook for 30 seconds.  I've been pushing too many buttons.

2. DefConn is in the 'my' phase.  "My blanket", "my milk", "my car", etc.  My favorite one is "my brother".  I had him in his high chair while I cooked the other night and he was pitifully saying 'my brother' over and over.  I called the kiddo in the kitchen and DefConn lit up and started chattering away at him.

3.  DH is turkey hunting.  Yesterday, it was rainy and cold.  DH was whining because they sat in the rain for hours for nothing because the turkeys went away because of the rain.  I have nothing for him.  I sat in our warm and dry house and worked.

4. Speaking of; if he gets a turkey, he wants to mount it.  I told him it wasn't happening.   It's about $400 AMERICAN DOLLARS to mount a full turkey.  Hellz no.  We do not live in a lodge and it's not gonig on the wall.  He said something about mounting the fan, which is about a quarter of the cost.  Even so, it's not going on display in the house.  Maybe it will movtivate him to sell this one and we can move to bigger house where he can have his 'man room' or a bigger garage.

5. Brewing is going amazingly well for us.  We are about to bottle a scottish ale this weekend.  We made a cream ale this past weekend.  I'm already thinking about our next batch.  I'm hoping DH wants to brew next weekend.  It's been such a great hobby for us.

Re: Morning randomness

  • The bulb has blown out in my microwave. It's more than 10 years old, so I think it's about that time to get a new one.

I feel you on the turkey. I think a framed fb picture is more than enough.

  • I have nothing about the turkey, I wouldn't want it in my house either!
But on the microwave, I had the same one for 15 + years and since then I have had 3 in about 7 years.  I'm not buying the cheapies either, they just don't make mircowaves the same anymore so hold on to the old one's as long as you can.
  • ...Wouldn't you *eat* the turkey? And all its delicious, delicious turkey skin? I'd be pretty pissed if my husband went hunting, caught something tasty, and then told me he was stuffing it instead. Mfer, no. Meat is expensive.
    image
  • Gross.  I am fine with killing animals for the meat (yum!) but mounting them...antlers, feathers, gobbler necks...no.

DefConn is adorable.  "my brother" about kilt me ded.

    My randoms-

I have to switch up my breakfast, when puppy chow is more enticing.  Maybe it's monthly issue, but not sure.  I didn't want my usual.  I hate when that happens.

My new coffeemaker is the shiz.  LURVE.

  • I love DefConn stories.

    My randoms -

DD loves The Golden Girls. To the point that she sings and dances when the theme song starts.

I made braciole last night. It was pre-prepped (my MIL gave it to us). I was not impressed. I would make it from scratch myself next time.

I'm on a serious wood burning kick. I'm obsessed with it and love doing it. I don't know if i know enough people to gift this stuff to, though.
  • I LOVE that lil' Dixie loves GG.   That's too cute.

Oh and another DefConn quickie, I was prepping to go on a 2 mile walk with my neighbor last night and I did some jumping jacks as a warm up.  DefConn started doing them with me and was giggling the whole time.  When he was done, he fell on the floor and was faking breathing heavy.
  • M could be my bestie.  I'm watching GG right now.
  • Awww, DefConn.

    My randoms:

    1.  Had a 3:00 dr. appt. yesterday afternoon, and I didn't see the doctor until after 4:00.  I think there was something going on though, not just run of the mill schedule problems--there was some scurrying when I first arrived.  On the bright side, while I was waiting the nurse did my updated medical history so I didn't have to make a separate appointment.  Which was very good because it took her all of five minutes and it would have made me cranky to make a separate trip for that.

    2.  It took the nurse five minutes to find a heartbeat.  Felt like an hour.  Then she finally found it (ahem, way down in the weeds) and SHE cried with relief.  Um, thunderjack much?  j/k

    3.  They found sugar in my urine.  Not a ton, but this early on, they're pretty sure it's a sign I'll have GD again.  They pushed my 1 hr test up to my next visit, which is like 10 weeks earlier than they usually do it.  I'm torn between cutting carbs out now in the hopes that I can maybe escape it, or eating all the delicious carbs I can until they are cruelly yanked away from me for 4-5 freaking months.  I actually already cut back on carbs, but to be honest, I've cheated some since I've been home during the day.  Home is where the Girl Scout cookies are.

    mm, girl scout cookies.

1-if God has a sense of humor, since I am officially getting rid of all the baby stuff (clothes, breast pump, cloth diapers, etc), now would be the time for the GBCK household of infertiles w/ an IUD to have an 'oops'
The Mr. didn't think it was funny when I pointed this out to him.

2-this week is atrocious.  yesterday I did hands-on stuff (DNA extraction from their own spit, yay!) with 120 middle schoolers. Tonight I have an event at a museum about germs and the body (and my "helper" just bailed--and took all the student-workers I was promised with him.)

3-My student workers are spoiled as heck w/ work rpojects.  And they've learned to milk it appropriately--they wander in and ask questions like "Mrs. GBCK, if you had to write a commencement speech, what book would you start with"--and have me say things like "here, you can borrow this copy of 20 great commencement speeches that lives in the work drawer".  or "Mrs GBCK, If you were researching how to defend a guilty defendant for a school project, where would you start" and have us old-fogeys in the room start tossing out options (FWIW, "Leopold and Loeb" was mroe helpful than Charles Manson, when it came down to the nitty gritty)

bmom, he's willing to pay $400 to stuff  aturkey, do you think he is concerned with wasting the precious crispy skin? ;)

$400! something about that whole story is HILARIOUS.

    also, defconn is HILARIOUS.

my microwave is probably 15 years old, and I bought it refurbished for about $30. it is the best damned microwave i have ever been in the presence of, and i will probably mourn it's death hard when it finally dies.

the kid screams when we try to get him to sit on the potty. i don't know what we're going to do, but i had this crazy dream of having him potty trained by the end of the summer. i think we need to invest in a new potty seat.

my random - i had an onion bagel with cream cheese and lox for breakfast and i ate the whole damn thing. random AND boring. YW.

  • My other random.

I have been on the hunt for a great mascara and By George, I finally found it. Y'all, I am not a big makeup person. It takes me under 3

minutes to put it on. So, spending $27 for mascara is unheard of in Nolaland. However, this stuff is the bomb. It makes my nonexistent lashes stand up to attention.:)

Loooove defconn.  I believe you cann have it stuffed AND have the meat.  There's a joke there somewhere.

Heffa- yay for a heartbeat.  Boo to the beetus.  I just opted out last time and went to assuming I had it.

    GB- please to meet Max.
  • MrsC - Where do you and your husband brew? Is it a garage activity, basement, kitchen?

My H brews in our tiny apartment kitchen and the entire apartment smells like boiled hops for 2 days after a brew session. Wondering if you do it in another area if the smell dissipates quicker?

Garage using a turkey fryer stand and a 5 gal pot that I bought specifically for brewing.
  • We're trying to close on a house in the next few weeks, so this will become a garage activity as soon as we've got a house!

Do you guys just brew enough for your own consumption/taking to parties, or do you enter contests and stuff too?
    image
  • We brew for personal and friends/family enjoyment. IDK if we'll ever do contests or anything.  We're just getting started.  So far, we just plan on doing it for fun and then we'll see what happens next.  We need to get a bigger house so we can have a bigger operation, CO2 kegs, and whatnot.
  • Awwww, Defcon is the cutest!

I cannot wait for my bro and husband to get brewing, they been talking about it for a year now and I am tired of them talking!
I would like a turkey, to eat, no dead animals on the walls thank you.

My randoms are lame: Cranky baby this week, work isn't bad since I've been back, and i ate cookies for breakfast and am really sad there aren't anymore.
