Wedding Woes

work rant.

i back up several desks here. this week and next, i am working in one of the departments i back up. it's easy work.

i have a question. the person i am covering for is without a computer (hence the need for me to cover) so i asked someone else in the department. this is not an equal-level coworker, but it's not a superior. it's a person who knows the answer to EVERY question you could ever come up with for this department. he's a walking user guide.

i IM'd him a basic question. i asked if he could tell me which column in a spreadsheet i needed to fill out for a client's request because i hadn't had this kind of request in over 6 months. he ignored it.

i emailed him the question. he replied, CC'ing *my* manager, and the manager of the entire account AND the manager of the entire region that my question was basic, i should have learned the answer in my training, and to call the person i am covering for at home since she will have the answers.

that was his reply to me. i was furious. if someone is not at work, i do not think i should have to call them at home to ask them something. and if he took the time to actually reply to me, he could have easily answered me instead of making it seem like what i asked of him.

i forwarded the email to my manager, saying i didn't think the reply i received was appropriate since we all work on the same team, and that we often ask one another basic questions without informing our managers that our coworkers ought to just know better.

i ended up calling my cowoerker at home to get the information i needed, and i told my manager that moving forward i will send my questions to a manager for them to get the answers i need.

i did not appreciate being thrown under the bus like that for no good reason. the main issue i have is, in the time it took him to tell me that i should have learned the answer in my training (2 years ago), he could have easily told me which column to fill out.

What an effing jerk!!  That's some serious BS.

Way to be a team player, ass.

We also work the same way.  We're constantly cross-checking with one another and bouncing ideas of how to handle difficult cases/accounts with each other.
  • That makes me rage-y on your behalf. What a ridiculous doucher.
  • I hope all those managers realize how petty this was.  You're covering for someone and haven't done it in half a year.  He needs to calm the eff down.
  • Douchelord, indeed.  That is just wrong.  Doesn't every team work that way?  Hell, I sometimes doublecheck on situations that I know i've done the right thing, but I just wnat someone else to reassure me that I did.

he's a dbag in general. in the past, he has made it a point that he doesn't like it when agents contact him directly, and he thinks nothing of telling someone to send their question to their manager first and have the manager forward him the question. so really, i kind of expected a diva-like response. i thought that being as he is actually present at work, he'd answer. i was wrong.

but it just annoys me he CC'd the managers. my coworkers and i always ask basic questions. there are so many times when your brain just has a glitch, and you need to ask someone about a format you may have just used. no big deal. but to this guy, he doesn't want to be bothered if he thinks we shouls already know the answers.
  • What an azzhole. Way to encourage stupid stuff like "don't even think of asking to be sure, just do whatever" and deal with the collateral damage later.

  • whatadick.  outrage validated.
  • I would be ragey, too.  This is the worst kind of dickery, and you're right, in the time it took him to put his little tantrum together, he could have already answered the damn question.

    that's uber rage-y.
And, honestly, calling people who are out can get you guys in work/employment law trouble.
