Redbox Instant Review

We upgraded our PlayOn service and discovered we can also stream from Redbox Instant.  I signed up for their free month trial.

We probably won't be getting an actual subscription. I wasn't all that impressed with their selection of movies.  also, there is no organization to them at all.  The categories are things like, "Buddy Movies" and then the movies aren't alphabetical within the category.  You can at least bookmark one to find it easily, but browsing capability leaves a lot to be desired.

Their rental fee is comparable to Amazon Instant ($3.99 regular, $4.99 for HD).  I think they might get some new releases sooner than Amazon does but I'm not entirely sure on that.  I also couldn't find anything that said how many hours the rental is for.  If it's like their boxs, Amazon is cheaper, b/c their rentals are for 48 hours usually, not just 24.

So, will not sign up for service, but can see us renting individual movies sometimes.

Re: Redbox Instant Review

  • The death of the movie store sucks.  There's no good streaming services out there for new movies unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for On Demand.

Redbox is so behind and you to think to reserve something or you'll never get anything good.

We went to Blockbuster all.the.time. I was pissed when the one by us closed.  And there's Family Video stores in general city area, but none that are close to us.  The closest one is by my IL's and that's a half hour away.

    I'm bitter about this, LOL.

Amazon is pretty good at getting new movies on stream for $3.99, MrsC.  My only complaint is usually for the first 1-2 weeks, it's purchase only, then it'll go to a rental as well.

Redbox reserve can make me stabby in a heartbeat.  Twice, it's jacked up and not used my coupon code.

While I don't feel it as much on movies, I agree with you when it comes to CD stores.  I really miss the browsing experience in music stores.
