No. An orange isn't the same.

Can you cook? Does grocery shopping count as "eating out?"

  • We're doing the same thing.  we were actually pretty successful, but we HAVE to have a plan of what we're cooking and the ingredients ready to go (meat defrosted, etc) or it's a failure.  We mostly made it last week.  DH was trying to count eating over at a friend's house and I said no.  We ate out twice on the weekend. Weekends should be easier to eat at home, but for us, they're harder.
  • No, I've been cooking. I just need to slow down on all of the eating out. Mostly for my expanding hips, but keeping some coins in my pocket doesn't hurt either.

  • Weekends are very hard. You're out already or someone invites you to go grab something to eat. Most of my social outings either begin or end with food. What is that about?

I hate how much takeout we get. We really don't dine out all that often, but I am all about the takeout.

H and I end up eating almost all of it, usually, since the kids always seem to be on some kind of hunger strike. (Nothing horrible - just the preschooler kind where they are too busy playing to stop to eat. Every 2nd or third day they wolf down a huge meal.)

Only 3 more days, NOLA - you can do it!

  • Yes, I can do it.

  • NOLA, DH and I have the same problem.  We also have been working hard to try and change our definition of reward.  B/c usually it, Let's celebrate with a big expensive luxurious dinner!  I don't mind doing that, but I need to stop the association of food with reward.  So, we've been trying to change it to new board game or small trips that are something we've wanted to do.
  • It's been easier for me lately because H will work nights, and that isn't tempting to do by yourself.

And then my friends invite me out to dinner, and I fail....oh well.  It happens like 3 times a year.  I'm trying to be good today so I can enjoy my dinner meal and a drink.

  • Plus, some of my friends are starting to have to get on high blood pressure meds, and I am not down for that. You can't continue eating crap all of the time when you hit middle age.(Hee.)

Anyway, I am making an effort to only eat out on Friday nights, and maybe Sat.

Yes.  At least last weekend, it was our neighbors who wanted to hang out so we cooked out instead of going out.

O, I have the opposite problem. I think because I live alone it's easier to grab something on the way home. I would probably cook more if i lived with someone.

  • I usually go home, run, and then I'm too lazy to go anywhere, so I eat the boring,

protein + carb + vegetable dinner.

    Formulas...they're easy.

  • Weekends are hard for us because we're always out doing something.

And now that baseball games have started (yes, already) it's even harder.  Games start at 5:30 (he has to be there by 4:30 to start warming up) and we don't get home until close to 8:00.

I did make tacos yesterday during the day and then throw the meat in the crockpot so we could eat a little something before we left and then some more when we got home.

I really want to be better this summer about making things ahead of time, even if it's just sandwiches before the game.

<div>this. nights that DK doesn't eat with us or on my days off, I just get takeout/go out for meals.</div><div>
</div><div>unless i'm going for something quick/light (like a yougurt and fruit) i hate cooking for just me. </div><div>
</div><div>do you limit what you eat when you do go out ( even if you don't go for the healthiest thing, do you go for portion control?) - i usually make an effort to cut everything in half and take a portion home. one of my friends will even have them box half when they bring it to the table. </div><div>

  • NOLA, this cookbook won a bunch of awards last year.  I checked it out from the library and LOVED it.  I've got it marked to buy someday.  Highly recommend:

Cooking for one is hard.  You're almost through the week though.
  • Barbie, that's what I've started doing or going to healthier places.
