Wedding Woes

mini rant

Grr. I am at panera this morning, and I'm supposed to be WORKING.

I thought we had agreed on 8:00. I was here at 7:30. (One of those things where if I'd left 10 minutes later, I'd've gotten here 30 minutes later.) Realized at about 8:10 that it was really an 8:30 start. 8:29, necessary colleague texts that he is running 45 minutes late.

Because sitting around panera for 2 extra hours is really what I was interested in doing today. Grr.

Now I have to decide whether to start without him. And since this involves approaching random strangers to ask them to do a quick study for me, I seem to be having a hard time with that.

  • Start with old people and work your way down.

They are supposed to be smartphone users. I can't start too old. :)

I am also doing it wrong. I picked a table next to a power outlet, since we'll be working with 3 devices quite heavily. But I really need to be by the door, I think.

    I feel like an idiot.

And I've learned that xanax *does* make me sleepy, so that's becoming les of an option. Boooo.

  • Yes, that knocks them out.

Just start with, "Hi, I'm DG and I just have a quick question for you."

Don't ask if they have a few minutes to answer some questions or if they would like to answer some questions because they will most likely say no.

You'll feel better after the first person.

  • I saw on FB that you're offering up GCs.  I'd definitely mention that in the initial asking.  I bet it won't be as hard as you think.
  • stuff like this makes me stabby...
*people who sit in Panara (or similar restaurants) working (or f*cking around) on their laptops for hours at a time
*people approaching me in public wanting help with a survey

I get it's important  with your line of work, but it pisses me off to no end when i go into a place to eat and can't get a table or have strangers bothering me. the Panera near my parents' house was horrible about this - you'd go in during lunch and people would be milling around with plates of food  while all of the tables were taken up by people on laptops with no food/drink in front of them.

thank goodness you aren't doing surveys in houston, or else barbie would stab you.

    ;)
  • or at least kick you ;-)

i just saw the picture you posted on FB. I think your panera manager needs to shut off his wi-fi. that guy's setup is insane.
