DD is joining the glasses club

We went to the optho yesterday. She's a teeeeeeeny bit far sighted. Which the ophtho wouldn't prescribe glasses for if not for her bit of residual eye crossing. We want to correct it without having to operate on her again, if possible.

So because of her microcephaly, I'm on the hunt for infant sized glasses. Which aren't the easiest things to find, apparently. I might end up going to an optician, getting the measurements done and ordering online.

She's going to be the cutest thing ever with her specs.  Not that she's not cute now, but it's just going to enhance what she's got going on.
  • Also, the glasses are a try-and-see fix so we might only have them on her for 3 months. I don't want to spend a zillion dollars on them.
  • The sizing is tough.  Our eye doctor had these adorable rubbery, bendable glasses for infants.  They looked indestructable.  They were too small for DD, so we had to move over to the kid-sized glasses, which were all huge.  Ugh.

i'd recommend the place i go to, because they have a great selection and their prices in store are fantastic. but, sadly, my eye doctor is retiring and the new guy (and his assistant) is such a douche that they forever lost my business. forever. i mean it. i am looking forward to telling them when i go in for my prescription so i can go elsewhere for sunglasses.
  • We have crappy insurance, and somehow DD's glasses were completely, 100%  covered.  I don't know how or why but we went with it.  NOTHING is ever 100% covered on my insurance.  I was shocked and relieved.  I hope this happens for you, too.  :)

    boo!

The teeny glasses are kinda adonkable though.

FWIW, Jury is still out since ours are ordered but not yet made, but America's best has a slightly better selection of kids glasses than wal-mart AND does free lenses (w/ all the extras--non scratch, light poly, etc)  for anyone under 13--so you are really only out the cost of the frames.
(and they did do all the head and eye distance measurements)
(they also do the 'buy 2 for only $10 more type of gimicky pricing, but we'll be getting 2 pairs, with all of the extras [including the warranty/insurance for an extra $15 per pair] for just under $100.  So 2 pair w/o worrying about warranty would have been $70)
  • I'm sure she'll be super cute.

Niece was part of the glasses club at 2-ish, and it helped on the eye crossing issue for her.

could they do something more google-ish rather than a pair of regular frames with ear hooks?

    I know nothing about glasses.
  • We're going to do goggle-ish because she won't tolerate normal glasses. Also the only kind of glasses they have in infant sizes (and her head is the size of a 5-6 month old's) are goggle-y and with a wrap around strap.
