Health Insurance Question

I just called to make my son and I's vision appts. They asked what insurance I had, I said "xyz", they asked if it was through my employer, and I said "yes, what other way would it be." and they said "oh, if it was through the state or something". So... i'm assuming they meant welfare. And if they mean welfare, why wouldn't they take it either way? I mean they'll get reimbursed either way... right?

Re: Health Insurance Question

  • Some offices do not take state insurance programs because the reimbursements are too low. I know quite a few OB/GYNs in my state won't take ACCHS (our state insurance) because they pay out next to nothing for services rendered and time it takes for the state to process the claim is too long. Also, a majority of those patients are a fvkcing nightmare to deal with.
  • Whatr PMeg said.  You'll see much the same thing with doctors refusing to take Medicare patients as well.

Or maybe they meant a state employee.
  • They also sometimes have special times that they will see a Medicaid/care patient.  For the neurologists here, it was like one day/year or something crazy.
  • Yeah, I'm your neighbor to the the north, and I know my OBGYN has a sign saying they won't accept Medicaid and to go see the county health dept.  Which sounds sucky, but yeah, it's my understanding that they're not being reimbursed for isht right now.

Also, the possessive form of "I" is "my," not "I's."

Did you just school me on grammer lol! I was real worried about that first sentence too. I knew I had it wrong! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

I can't believe they have signs that say that! but from a providers view- I get it. Just seems kind of wrong in a way-almost like "profiling".

@pmeg and everyone else- I see why now. Thanks! I was just confused (and a little shocked) as to why they wouldn't take folks on welfare.
