Wedding Woes

O-face, Hot Yoga

We've already taken a couple of classes, this is just a different style than the other ones we've done that is a deep stretching one.  This one is all kneeling or laying down poses that you hold for an extended amount of time, with the purpose of increasing flexibility and circulation.

I have yet to make it through an entire hot yoga class w/out having to sit down.  DH hasn't either.  I know all of the basic poses that are being done, but the heat makes it a whole new story.  I've never thought my body sweated efficiently and this is proving it to me.  But it is getting better and we are sticking with it.  B/c I have never felt a high like I have after I leave hot yoga, plus I'm all stretched and awesome feeling.

You'll need a beach towel to cover your mat with.  The entire mat has to be covered or when you get sweaty, you aren't able to hold the poses.  And forgo modesty.  Our first class I had a short sleeve shirt (get something that wicks away sweat if you can), sports bra and yoga pants and I almost melted.  Next time, running skirt and sports bra.  Yeah, I let it all hang out and didn't care a lick.  DH goes in his swimming trunks and takes off his shirt.  And those clothes go straight into the washer when we get home and we get straight into the shower.  We actually steamed outside at the last class.  :)

  • Oh man, I am always the first to sweat everywhere.  I'm serious.

I went to a spin class with a friend one time, I'm looking in the mirror covered in sweat and the 4 other people in class are just fresh looking.  WTF?!  It was mortifying and satisfying like "haha, I sweat more than you!!!".  Silly, I know.

  • Hey, it means you're working more efficiently.  Most of the women in our first class were people who had been doing it for awhile and they were covered within the first few minutes.  After our first time, we had the towel that covered the mat and brought another towel just to wipe sweat off of us.  I've never been so thankful in my life to have a ceiling fan switched on and then when the door opens, man that was wonderful!
  • Oh I will tell you though that I'm not sure we're going to continue through the summer.  I'm pretty sure I'd be ill from coming out of the hot studio into heat and humidity.  IDK, that is going to be by ear.  I might just switch to a regular yoga class during that time.  one of my co-workers has been doing it for 2 years and she said that she starts to back off quite a bit in the summer b/c it's just too hot.
