Movie review - The Five Year Engagement

I dvr-ed it a few weeks ago and just got around to watching.

Looooong and booooring.

To me, anything longer than 90 minutes is unnecessary in most cases, but this was two hours and fifteen minutes.  Ugh.

It really had some comedic potential with Jason Segal, Kevin Hart (his part is really small), and Chris Pratt but it just didn't happen.

Very predictable.

<div>i agree. it looks kinda cute in previews, but i think that was most of the funny moments. </div><div>i saw it in the theater, and was looking at my watch by the end. way too long. </div><div>

  • i hate this movie so much i just can't even.

    1) the jason segel character works at zingerman's and they treat that point like it's shameful. zingerman's is one of the great food meccas and ambassadors of america.  i am also not a big fan of someone being job shamed.

    2) what do these two have in common?  they are so disrespectful and unsupportive of each other, they should not be married.

    3) their work relationships are totally inappropriate, and the fact that neither of them knew what was happening shows how utterly disengaged they are from each other.

    this movie was not cool.

it was written by jason segal, and i want to know what woman did him so wrong that he thinks his character (the male lead, just like in forgetting sarah marshall) is flawless and should come off as flawless on screen.

this was my review from when i saw it:

it was just long. i FF'd through most of it. man, i love that DVR. i only recorded it because i caught 5 minutes during the proposal, and wanted to see the rest.

it was written by jason segal, and it's a judd apetow movie, so there ya go. love him or hate him. but this was not their best work. in fact, i think jason segal needs to sack up and let go of whatever wrong some woman must have done to him to cause this movie and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (which is actually funnier after watching it a few times) to both happen.

it's not a bad movie, it's just not great. it's a nice change from the doofus guy and the woman who puts up with him so he could have a life partner. in this (and sarah marshall), the guy doesn't seem to have any flaws. NONE! really? okay.

so, that's it. recommend, but only if nothing else is on.

there were some very funny parts, though.

But they cleaned it up so nicely by having the professor turning out to be a jerk.  She'd just have to move back to San Fran!

There are more than 4 cities in the world.
  • THAT'S ANOTHER THING.

getting hired because your spouse/life partner was hired first is very common in academia and in business in general.  whytf was she all, "no, on my own merits" about it?  being married to a rising star is a merit.

i was actually upset that she started dating the professor. it was gross and kind of unforgiving, if you ask me. i can't see how a couple could recover from something like that, considering his advances were supposedly unwanted.

but i stand firm in believing that being drunk is not an excuse for cheating, so there's that.
