PW: where did everyone go? and other questions

why is it so dead?
i'm trying to find a way to procrastinate!

DG: did your meeting happen yesterday? did anyone kick/stab/threaten you for trying to survey them? I started reading Lean In, and I'll be curious to hear your opinion.

Ali: Can you recommend a paint color family? We're putting in a tub surround in our guest bath, with a matching counter top for the double sink. Color is "Storm" http://www.onyxcollection.com/color-selector.html
Floor will be porcelain tile that is pale ivory with swirls of pale blue-grey and  pale creamy yellow. We're going to refinish the wood cabinets ourselves and paint. since the shower and sink top will be dark (brushed nickel hardware) we don't want to go too dark on the walls.

Zzilla: How is sleep training going?

Oface: How do you make a mani last more than 24-48 hours?

Re: PW: where did everyone go? and other questions

  • I would like to hear that from Oface as well, mine never last long.

it's.....going. as long as everyone who puts him to bed is on the same page, we should be okay. *I* can ignore the calls (help me, i'm stuck, hurry, i'm in here ::complete with knocking on the wall::, my toe hurts...) and he will lay down if i have to go in and ask him to lay down because it's bed time. but i'm working really hard to maintain consistancy. H and I are not always able to be there while he's falling off to sleep.

the weather is getting nice, so i can take him out after daycare nowadays. when we do things like that, it's no surprise he sleeps better. but i think we're just going to have to get used to 6am being the morning wake up time, and that this kid likes to check if we're still in the house with him in the middle of the night.

and then i miss him when he's asleep. go figure.

  • RE: Manis, I'm starting to figure out that yes, base and top coats matter.  And it SUCKS, but it means I only paint once per week and for some colors I can stretch to 10 days.
  • I am so DED at, "Hurry, I'm stuck, in here" and knocking on the walls.
  • re: manis  - i never bother with my fingernails, just my toes. i use glittery polish with a top coat most of the time, so unless i bash my foot off of something, i only change the colors when it starts to grow out or i get sick of them. i went to a salon last friday to use a groupon for a mani/pedi, and the polish was so chipped that i took it off sunday.
  • That's weird.

I take off old polish, file and buff nails (if they feel oily after this, I might run the acetone over them again), put on base coat, 2 coats of color, then top coat.  Then, I spend a week trying not to indulge my picking habit.  That's usually why i have to change after a week, b/c there's the slightest growth showing and I want to pick off the nailpolish.  I've also noticed the age of my nail polish makes a huge difference.
  • V is correct.

Butter makes a great base coat, then two coats, thin even coats with dry time in between and then a thin top coat.

Everyone's fingernails are different too.  And avoiding water on your hands, like washing over often or doing dishes.  That causes swelling of the nail bed, which will not be good for the paint.

I painted my nails this past monday, the first time in 3 months.

i have no idea about nail stuff, because it's rare i do my nails. it always chips because of my skin's oils and also because i wash my hands a million times a day.

V, it's actually very funny. when we have people over, he'll call them also - "grandma, help me, i need you, wait..."
  • ali - i like that! i was thinking along the same lines ( maybe 1-2 shades lighter) - i just didn't know if it would be too much grey. it's hard to tell from the pallette online, but the "storm" has tiny light blue/grey and pale yellowflecks in in, so compliments the tile.

cabinets are a medium brown right now (natural wood)  - should we go lighter or darker? tint?

I'm guessing you meant a brand, but I immediately thought the food.  Then thought Paula Deen's nails must suck since she got the beetus.
  • LMAO @ baby wzz and his nighttime hijinks.

We had DefConn sleep in our room in his PnP the other night because he was having issues in his own bed (that turned out to be an ear infection).  He slept so well and I've been itching to have him sleep in our room again...but I haven't done it.  But I also haven't taken down the PnP either.  I miss the days when he slept in our room all the time.

6let started coming in our bed when he was having tonsil troubles.  He kept coming in after surgery.  I'm over it.  I slept with the kids for 2 wks then they were in their own room.

i can't have him in my room. he doesn't sleep well no matter where he sleeps, if he isn't copmpletely worn out or on cold medicine, so i would rather walk across the whole house to get to him once in a while versus havin g to be disturbed all throughout the night. we just dont have a good sleeper. oh well.

i'm nervous about what will happen when we put him in his toddler or big boy bed. i'm holding out as long as possible for that.

  • Bahaha.  yes, Butter London is a brand.  :)

  • Jojo, IDK if you'd be allowed to have the gel manis, but they seem to work really well for my bartender friends.

I could tell the storm had the blue/grey in it, but couldn't see the pale yellow.  Yeah, got a couple shades lighter if that's what you are comfortable with.  I would probably go a little darker on the cabinets or stay within the medium range to contrast the floor AND the countertop.  I'd stay away from golden oak, pine, or anything yellowy- maybe more in the medium brown ikea color (ykwim) or a walnut.
