Dirt Cheap Venue! - First Post :)

Hello everyone! This is fun, I've scoured TheKnot as long as I can remember and now I'm finally posting!

Since I'm a newbie to this wedding planning business, I'm looking for some advice from the more seasoned brides. My fiance and I are paying for this wedding ourselves and he is a full time nursing student which means I am paying for this wedding :) I am looking for wedding venues that I could just pay a flat fee to rent the location and bring in my own vendors - I already have an affordable caterer, my stepdad will take care of decor and flowers, my friend who is a chef is making the cake, etc.

Also, I am hoping to keep the flat fee under $1,500 - the less, the better! We're splurging quite a bit on the photographer so I need to keep the rest of the wedding on a tight budget.

I went to see the Miami Rowing Club which is about $1,000, but the place is very run down and would need a lot of work. I'm also going to go look at the Old Davie School House. I'm open to locations in the South Florida area - as far north as Palm Beach and as far south as Key Largo. I'm open to clubhouses that are part of condo associations or homeowners neighborhoods - anything like that!  I'm not a picky bride on the details of location or decor, I just want to marry the love of my life and celebrate!

Thanks in advance for all the suggestions,
Roxy

  • Long Ley Nature Center in Davie has a great banquet room and it's pretty new.  Beautiful areas outside for photos. I beleive it's $1400 to rent for 12 hours, beer and wine only can be brought in. They have round tables and banquet chairs, a stage and nice sound system and video screens.  If you get married on a week day, it's very cheap to rent...I think $50/ hour...Robbins Lodge ( I think it's in Tree Tops Park?) In Davie, is another choice, but I think Long Key is nicer.
  • IAlso there are beautiful ballrooms to rent at Volunteer Park in Plantation.  Can't recall the cost, but I remember it to be reasonable.

I was going to suggest Robbin's Lodge.  I hosted a huge party there and they have a full kitchen and tables and chairs included.  For a resident it was around 500 i don't remember the non-resident price.  It was a great space for a reception/party.  There is a fireplace, the lodge looks like a nice ranch style house.

There's wonderful grounds if you want to have an outdoor ceremony.
