Wedding Etiquette Forum

Hi!

So I didn't properly introduce myself before I asked for advice awhile ago.  I took that advice, btw and invited my friends' significant others, even if they are recent additions :-)  They are all super stoked about the wedding, so thanks ladies!

I'm currently in the service and I used to drive a ship in Alaska and I dove as a working diver in the Bering Sea.  Luckily I was able to move to FL for my land assignment and the diving is much better down here, although there are no purple starfish like there were in the Bering.  I have a yellow lab/golden retriever mix and she's the best fur child I could ask for(see picture below).

FI and I are getting married in a month, woohoo!  Most of the plans are taken care of and now it's just time to wait for them all to happen.  I'm also juggling my separation from the service and moving half of my stuff back to NC and half of my stuff down to FI's apartment, where he is stationed six hours away.  It's going to be an insane month but when I'm laying by the pool and zip-lining through the Costa Rican rainforest with my husband, I know it will all be worth it.

I hope you're all having a lovely Wednesday!

Cheers!

Re: Hi!

  • Congrats on having your planning done! Your honeymoon in CR will be amazing, I still remember the wind in my face from the ziplines! Good luck with the moving and happy Wednesday to you also!
  • Welcome, and happy Wednesday! Your job sounds so interesting! Tell me more :)

Also, your furbaby is the bomb. I love that he's golden retriever colored and lab looking! I have a lab myself (and a German Shepherd, and a Corgi).

My FSIL (someday, hah) just got back from Costa Rica on Tuesday, she was there for ten days and said the weather is PERFECT right now, so you're in luck!

Snaps to you for following etiquette :)

Hi back! Your dog is so sweet!!!!
  • Thanks for the doggie compliments!  Her name is Daisy and I'm not a very girly girl so I used to dress her in blue until everyone thought she was a boy.  Now it's hot pink zebra stripes!!

Km-the job is definitely really cool and part of me is sad to leave it.  However, if FI and I want to see each other on a regular basis for the first 16 years of our marriage, one of us has to leave our job(he's in the same service I am).  He was recently selected as one of the NOAA Hurricane Hunters, so he's based in Tampa and he will start flying the Gulfstream IV(super sexy jet) in November.  I used to drive this ship in Alaska:

Since he's way better at the "yes sir, yes ma'am" stuff, I chose to get out.  I'm very happy to leave but I had some crazy experiences over the last four years and I made some incredible friendships.  I hope to start grad school next January.
  • Howdy! Do you recycle?

  • Addie, typically I recycle.  I majored in Environmental Policy and I'm a huge fan of recycling.  I've had to adjust my habits to reducing and reusing since I moved to Panama City Beach.  Unfortunately, this area does not have a recycling program in place.  I look forward to rejoining the 21st century in a couple of weeks!
  • I am new to the world of recycling. I probably do it wrong.

  • OP, you are a very interesting person! Driving ships?!?! What an icebreaker at parties. The only way to trump you is astronaut, stuntman, or brainsurgeon. :p

  • Haha, if you ever need training, go to a Seattle McDonald's.  They usually have different receptacles for your trash.  Like I said, I pretty much majored in recycling but the one time I went, I had to read the posters to figure out what goes where!!

My dad worked for NASA as an aerospace engineer and worked on a few of the shuttles so I grew up hanging out with astronauts, haha.  Our BM is also in the service and he just applied to be an astronaut.  Flying into hurricanes just isn't enough for him ;-)

I usually get a double take when I tell people about my profession.  I started driving ships when I was 22 so I think most people were just shocked that I was a young, female doing her thing in a "man's world."  I had to fight some prejudice from the salty dogs on the ship but after awhile I gained their respect.
