NER- recessional song

Hello!  The music board doesn't get a whole lot of action so I thought I'd try over here  : )  i'm a BM in a friends wedding coming up, and they're having trouble figuring out a recessional song. They originally picked the theme song from the Boondock Saints but couldn't find sheet music for it, so now they need something new. Any ideas? They're going for modern, upbeat, etc.  thanks!

Re: NER- recessional song

  • It should be something celebratory and happy.  The recessional is supposed to be more upbeat versus the other music.  That's why a lot of poeple use Ode to Joy or things like that.

I'm guessing the reason they wanted Boondock Saints is for the Celtic, Irish sound of the music?  Do they want something else like this?  I've watched the movie a lot in college, and it's never really screamed Wedding Recessional to me, but to each their own.

More specifics are really needed to narrow it down.  I've heard everything from classical music to pop music to College Fight Songs.  If you can give us a little more insight it would be helpful!

Also, what instruments will there be?

  • i believe the only instrument is a piano. They do like the Celtic/Irish feel. They just want something different that hasn't really been done before. Fast, modern, Irish-y maybe, unique.
  • We used Star Wars: Throne Room. That doesn't really fit what they are looking for, though, I guess.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We used "Married Life” by Michael Giacchino.  It is the theme song from the movie Up, which has always been a favorite movie of ours.

  • I think they should look into some Irish reels.  These are faster, dancing Irish songs with the same feel as the Boondock Saints theme.  There are tons.

I also found this website that lists Irish music by where it would appear in the wedding ceremony: http://myweddingmusic.com/Irish-Wedding-Songs.asp

I personally love "Morrison's Jig", but I'm not sure about how it would translate on just a piano.

<div>Haha! That's what we're using, too. Our trio ensemble was able to purchase the music to give us a string version of the song. We can't wait!</div>
  • Thanks for the suggestions!  I'll pass them on!  :)
