Avoid TownePlace Suites in East Lansing!

I just wanted to share a piece of information that I wish I had known a year ago. I am getting married in May 2013 at the MSU Gardens. Our reception is right there in the gardens so we wanted to find a hotel enarby for our guests. Options in that part of East Lansing are slim, but we went with TownePlace Suits near the Hannah Plaza. The rooms are acceptable, but the location was great.

I had blocked off 25 rooms at the hotel that were to be held until 1 month prior to the wedding and about two months before the wedding I received an email from the hotel that they are no longer holding the rooms! An email on a Sunday morning with a "sorry for the inconvenience." My invitations had just gone out and I the had to contact all guests with a new accommodation information!

Avoid this hotel! It is not worth the frustration!

Did they give you a reason for not blocking the rooms any longer?

Since they are an extended stay hotel, when a corporate account books rooms or extends their stay their reservation trumps reservations such as a wedding party. It actually escalated to them having to tranfers some of our rooms to another hotel- and a much lower quality hotel. It really was a headache that a bride simply should not have to deal with!
