i took measurements; i have more room on the wall and depth-wise (hee) that i thought.  i would probably prefer to keep the chair on the side instead of parked in front just to keep the space clear.

i would like a desk, but i think i would like a hutch for storage and/or display.  i would be willing to forego the hutch and just get some floating shelving for above the desk.  there are some books and knick knacks and such that would be okay to have out.

i also like the idea of a secretary so i can close off the visual noise of the desk, and i wouldn't have to keep it clean all the time.  but it's not a dealbreaker, ladies.

i was looking at this cb2 desk

it would match the rest of the room, but it doesn't provide a lot of storage or working space.  i would definitely need at least a shelf and probably a rollaway cart for storage.

for the same price, i can get this ikea secretary and hutch.  but i would probably need to alter the legs and knobs in order to get the right look and feel for the room.

or i can buy vintage and get a little bit of storage and the right look, but i would still need at least a shelf and a smaller rollaway cart.

  • I really like to style of the Ikea one. Plus it's totally easy to paint it or change out the knobs.

It is bigger, but it's shallow (20 inches).

(why is it always about size with you, zsa?)

  • It sounds like you're getting a lot of stuff to hold our stuff at this point, y'know?

Can you make half of your closet space your storage shelves?  This is just the guest room, so I'm assuming the closet is not full of other things already.  Do the floating shelves for your display and the small secretary (cb2) desk displayed to actually use.  That way you don't have all of this rollaway nonsense going on.

Or just the floating shelves and the sewing desk type you liked before to store in the closet for your stuff.  Take out as needed.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA.

I can't believe I typed, "It sounds like you're getting a lot of stuff to hold our stuff at this point, y'know?"  I'm leaving it, b/c it's hilarious.

I PPH the vintage one.  Snap that baby up "toot sweet".

The first just doesn't look big enough to function as anything.  If you haven't seen the white Hemnes in person, it's not a normal finish.  It's more lacquered than wood grain.  This one looks awfully clunky.

    I vote #3.

you do raise a good point.  maybe i will start by cleaning out the closet (it is my off-season clothing storage), see how much space that clears up and then move ahead from there.

And now I have Eminem's "Cleaning out my Closet" stuck in my head.

Seriously though, you need to get the vintage one.  I'm sure zsa and alikatt agree.  QUICK BEFORE ITS GONE.
  • Go email that seller for the vintage one RIGHT NOW.
