gifts to the poor

In the church booklet, it asks if we want to do "gift for the poor"

What does that mean? monetary donation, passing the basket? help I don't know what it means

Re: gifts to the poor

  • I believe it means presenting a monetary donation from the bride and groom with the gifts for consecration.

I have never seen it done, but I know some girls here have encountered it. Hopefully, one or more of them will chime in with their experiences.

I have also heard of bringing things like canned goods and non-perishable food items forward as the gift for the poor. As previous posters mentioned this is a gift from the bride and groom not your guests. While I have heard of this, I actually haven't seen it done at any weddings I have attended in person and we did not bring up a gift for the poor at our wedding as it wasn't something our priest brought up.

I see how my original wording was unclear. Obviously only the bread and wine would be consecrated! That's why you shouldn't post before coffee in the morning!
