headpeice for a tea length dress

So I am a little stuck on what headpeices to wear woth a tea length dress. Very simple almost no detail to it.I'd like to wear a simple ribbon with some crystal detail for the I guess decoration and I would rather not wear a veil...however fiance wants me to wear a veil because he feels that makes me a bride. When he looked at dresses with me he lit up when they put the veil on. So if I wear a veil how long should it be? Is it ok to not wear a veil? Any thoughts?

Re: headpeice for a tea length dress

  • I think it really comes down to what you want to wear.  I think a nice ribbon headband would be very pretty but if you decide on a veil then I wouldn't go with one any longer then fingertip.  I would say a safe length would be elbow length because any shorter and it could start to look a little poofy unless you make sure that it is only one tier.  You could even rock a birdcage veil if you wanted to.

I mean Audrey Hepburn in Funny Girl is a great classic example of a simple tea length wedding dress with short shoulder length veil.

I wore tea length and my veil was maybe elbow length.  My headpiece looked like a crown, but it was the one my mom wore.

Per the bolded:  I think you mean Funny Face, Barbra Streisand was in Funny Girl.

Yes, thank you.  My brain was thinking one thing but my fingers typed something different!

  • No worries, it happens.

  • I'm wearing a tea length dress and going with an elbow length, single tier veil. Wear what you want and what makes you feel good - I'm firmly in the camp of each person picking their own outfit. FI isn't getting a say in what I wear - I ask him opinion sometimes - and I don't get a say in what he wears unless he asks for an opinion.

It is ok to not wear a veil.
  • If you don't want a veil you don't have to get one. I'm with winelover, the bride and groom pick their own outfit. I had no idea what H was wearing until I saw him at the altar.

I wore an elbow length veil with a blusher. I hadn't planned on it, but really liked it when I tried it on with my dress, and my mom wanted to buy it for me.

Another compromise could be to have a veil without a blusher.

Just to make sure I'm clear, I don't think you need to compromise. This is one thing that should be completely up to you.

  • i'll be probably wearing a tea length dress and I'm looking at birdcage veils and fascinators, and a blusher is another option for a more veil-y veil. If I were you and it was really important to my fiance, I'd find a compromise.

As far as ettiquette and looks, I think a veil to the elbow or shoulder could be beautiful, and I think it's acceptable to NOT wear a veil with any style of dress. (The style of wedding casual/traditional/etc. effects it the most, I think.)

  • You can also check out Juliet style veils - I didn't want one till I saw a gorgeous Juliet cap veil on etsy. This should be your decision though.

I'm wearing a tea length gown with a crystal headband. I was thinking a birdcage veil though. It is the one time I'll be a able to wear one. I haven't decided yet. But I do think a simple headband is just fine and very cute. If you really want to please your FH, I would go for a birdcage veil. It's a nice compromise between your headband and his veil. But don't worry too much about what he will think. He'll think you're beautiful in anything you wear. It's not like he'll be thinking "Where's the veil?" while you walk down the aisle towards him.
