Re: what if i lose THE dress?

  • That's a really pretty dress, and a pretty common style, so I'd guess it'll be available for a while. That said, a year out isn't unheard of to order a dress. Though, you'd be fine ordering it by November. I'm not sure I'd wait till December because you'll want at least 7 months for the dress to be made and any alterations to be done.

  • I wouldn't wait until December anyway. I ordered my dress 9 months in advance.

Pay for your own dress and order it whenever you want.
  • If you absolutely love the dress and do not think that any other dress will give you the same feeling then purchase it.  There is no reason to wait if you know that that dress is the dress for you.

And CMGr, I have to disagree with you.  There is such a thing as THE dress for every bride.  It is the dress you fall in love with and can see yourself marrying the man of your dreams in.  My dress was THE dress.  I absolutely loved it and still do.  Yes, there are thousands of other dresses out there that I am sure would have been just as nicety and made me look pretty but my dress made me feel beautiful and made me feel like a bride which is a lot different then just making me look pretty for a day.

  • I ordered my dress in September 2012 and had it in the first week fo January 2013.  I too didn't want to risk losing the dress, even though its a common style (all lace, but this was the one I fell in love with and wasn't excepting too).  I had only went to try on various styles to get a better of idea of what looked good on me.  My dad said he couldn't picture me in any other dress and I had to agree with him.  It's sitting in his closet in a garment bag until its time for alterations.

  • First of all, gorgeous dress! Second, It's just a year to your wedding so it's not unreasonable to order now. If you love it and know it's the one for you, I'd just go ahead and order it now and cross it off your list.
  • If you truly feel that this is the dress for you and you are prepared to NOT LOOK AT ANY MORE WEDDING GOWNS EVER AGAIN (this includes in magazines, in stores, etc), then I say purchase it. I really would hate for you to buy it so soon, and then find another you like better. However, I do love that gown and think its classic. Might as well get it if you are truly sure.

  • I'm getting married in May 2014 and I bought my dress in February. I knew it was the dress I wanted and now it's in my closet and every time I look at it I smile. If you're sure you want this dress then I don't see the reason to wait.

  • I would buy it if it is the one. When I finally found the dress I had been stalking online for months, I found out it was going to be discontinued the next month. Thankfully I ordered it in time.
  • Don't wait until December.  Most dresses take 6-9 months to come in so it woun't be here in time for June. I ordered my dress 13 months out and never regretted it.

  • I'm getting married in May 2014 and ordered my dress at the end of February.  It's a Mori Lee and will take 6-7 months to come in.  I wouldn't wait till January unless you're ok with buying off the rack or a sample of the dress you love.

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice. Im going to go look at it on Saturday with one of my bridesmaids and my mother in law. Ill let you know what happends.
  • I'm not getting married until June, 2014 also. I tried on my dress in April and fell so much in love with it and how it made me feel like a bride, picturing my FI with me at the altar and his expression. I also fell in love with the price since it was right at the price point I was trying to stay under in my budget. I had the store hold it that day while I looked elsewhere (just look, I wasn't expecting to buy at all) and went back the next day, tried it on again and bought it that morning. It's hanging in my closet double wrapped in garment bags until January when I go back for alterations.
  • As PP have said, I wouldn't wait until December to order anyways. I am getting married a month before you and I am (hopefully) ordering my dress in July. Good luck this weekend!

  • Not too early to order, I just ordered my gown last month for our June 2014 wedding. Since you have the time to spare and pretty much know this is the dress, maybe look around this summer for trunk shows in your area to save a bit of $ on the dress.
  • I am having a June 2014 wedding as well, and I put down a partial deposit on my dress this past weekend. Depending on the designer, they can take up to 8 months to come in (especially if you order it custom at all). Mine shouldn't take that long, but the way I look at it is this: I know that is the dress I'm getting married in, so why wait?
    Praying for a miracle!
