Poll! Abductions.

not aliens, although that's another topic i wanted to bring up.

i watched a news segment this morning about having a conversation with your children about being abducted. the anchor confessed that she was approached by strangers 4 different times between age 11-13, and the man she interviews was approached by people in a car one time in his life, which is usually the most common way strangers will get a kid's attention. when i was very young, i was approached by two men asking me if i wanted ot go with them. i didn't think it was this common, so i was curious if you have ever been adbucted or approached by someone trying to abduct you.

Not me, but my sister caught a guy diddling himself on a playground when she was in elementary school. Then on the walk to Jr. High she used to get flashed by a guy (only the bottom half) in one of the apartment buildings she had to walk by.

I'm thinking where you grew up will skew this.  The main traffic on my road was a tractor.  There were 2 neighbors a reasonable walk away, but anyone else was over 10 min.

ETA: (trying the edit feature too) I just looked up the town I grew up in.  134 residents in 2010.  Yep, small town.

SS - When I was 7 or 8, I was using the restroom at a fast food place.  My mom said she'd be right in.  An older woman followed me in and while we were in the stalls, she was trying to talk to me.

She kept asking me where we were going, how old I was, etc, and I wouldn't answer he back.  I was trying to plan how to break out of there without being murdered. I remember running out of there without flushing or washing my hands.

At the time, I was sure this woman was trying to take me and I'd never see my family again.  She was probably just the kind of old lady who thinks it's ok to touch pregnant bellies.

That seems like a lot of being approached by creeps to me. But then, I lived in a small town, too, and I mostly ignored other people. Just like I do now. So who knows if people were trying to lure me, and I was just all, "Bitch, please. I have playing to do. Step off."

I had some odd situations, so I"m mostly a 'yeah'

But...my sisters and I were basically given free reign during our travels.  I mean, really, I was, without adult supervision, walking my baby sis and my dog in NYC when I realized we were stepping all over crack vials while looking at burned out cars... and made baby-sis go back to the camper (she was a brat about it too--because I didn't explain why).
