Celebrities are tacky, too!

edited May 2013 in Wedding Etiquette Forum
Granted, I don't really know who this person is, but she's famous enough to have an article about her wedding on People.com.

At the bottom of the article, it says that the couple plans to honeymoon in Hawaii, according to a website they set up to help fund their trip.

Thought you'd enjoy.

ETA: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20701308,00.html  The original article. I didn't regularly watch 30 Rock.

Re: Celebrities are tacky, too!

  • Gross.  If she's a working TV actress, she makes enough to pay for her own damn honeymoon.
  • I don't get how people (commenters on the article, in particular) don't understand the difference between receiving money as a gift and ASKING for money as a gift.  It really isn't that difficult a concept....
  • I watched 30 Rock religiously. She was a recurring character who was in at least 3/4 of the episodes across the seven seasons. Doesn't really compute. I don't think it's a special snowflake thing as much as it is a lack of understanding of what a honeymoon registry sounds like from a guest perspective.
  • What boggles my mind is that they're not even saying 'we're going to Hawaii if you'd like to buy us an excursion or a special meal'.  They've registered for THE FLIGHTS and HOTEL!  So, in your ideal world you get a completely free honeymoon?? I would be more inclined to purchase you something special for your honeymoon (you know, if it wasn't rude and the website wasn't taking part of my money), but there's no way I'm paying for your flights and accommodation!

  • Great. Now we'll get even more posters thinking this is a good idea.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Hahaha!  We so will. We should have a mean reg flag made for us.

  • Those stupid "Honeyfund" jars are all over Pinterest.

Of course, the generic wedding pins on Pinterest make me want to heave anyway. Sooooooo many tacky/rude/bad ideas...
  • I tend to forget about pinterest 99% of the time. I used it more when I first got engaged, and a little beforehand when I was posting wedding dresses I was interested in, but never really looked at all the wedding stuff on there lol

Also, you'd think an actress would be able to pay for her own honeymoon, even if she's not a huge star?

  • I was just invited to a bridal shower (I don't think I've ever met the bride...my FI is friends with her FI) and the only thing in the invitation was a card about their honeymoon fund.  Nothing about "the couple is registered at Bed Bath & Beyond" or anything.  JUST the honeymoon registry.

I recently got a wedding invite and the first thought that popped into my mind was, "what the heck is honeyfund?" I went to the website and was appalled. You can pay for part of their tickets, hotel stay, fancy dinner, etc. I had never heard of this and found it incredibly tacky. Most of the "gifts" you could sign up for were expensive too so it wasn't even accommodating for those of us on a tight budget. I was curious what all of those numbers added up to and ,let's just say, they were asking for a very hefty gift. I ended up giving a check instead and will NOT be using this site for my wedding. Sadly, more and more people are using this.
