Major Venue Problem, Help!!

My fiance and I are switching venues and we're having trouble with the current location we are booked at. Their telling us that we have to pay them $500 for a cancellation fee and we lose all the money we've already paid them. The $500 is in the contract I signed with them, but no where in the contract does it state they stay with the money I already paid them in advance.

So I tell them we'll obviously do the $500 but want the remainder we've paid in advance back. We also told them the contract does not state that they stay with the money I paid in advance (i have a copy of what i signed with them),it's way before 90 days (if that were to be used as any type of excuse, my wedding isn't until September) and the services have not been made, prepared or used. They say that is not policy and won't give it back.

Is that legal? How should I handle this? Please help!
