What do I actully need the day of?

So one of my bridesmaids (I really do love her) sent me a semi-crazy list of items I need to pack in a bag for the wedding day. Her rational is that it is going to be very hot (July in CT, it will be) and my dress is huge and hot. Her list includes stuff like extra underwear, extra spanx, baby powder and 45 other items (legit). What did you bring with you, and what did you use? Am I going to even have time to worry about that sort of stuff? Suggestions?

Re: What do I actully need the day of?

  • what did i use...sewing kit, extra buttons, lotion, extra spanx, extra hair pins, bottle water, makeup, stain remover stick....
  • I made up a kit based on this list from OBB and the comments there: http://offbeatbride.com/2012/01/wedding-emergency-kit. Didn't include everything, just what seemed rational.

Of course. I'm not married yet, I don't know what I'll need. I figure better safe than sorry.

  • Lets see; from the time I left the house (where I got ready with my girls) to the time we got to the hotel after the reception I had and used:  flip flops, chapstick, and a bottle of water.

Yup... that's it.  I got married in July in Chicago(ish).  We were indoors for ceremony and reception, but did photos outside and yes I got hot and sweaty, but I wouldn't change my underwear on any other day just b/c I got overheated.

I did have a change of clothes (and underwear) in my bag at the hotel.  If I had gotten ready away from the house I might have worried more about deodorant, lotion, other toiletry things.  But sincerely: I got ready and once the final accessory was on the day flew.  I'd recommend leaving the garter off until right before the toss if you're doing one, b/c it will get sweaty.  But that's about it.

  • An emergency kit would be great to have but it certainly does not need to be 50 items long. I'd pack:

    Bobby pins
    Safety pins
    Blotting sheets
    Tide pen
    Deodorant
    Chapstick
    Lotion
    Tweezers
    Any necessary makeup
    Advil
    Bandaids
    Comb
    Kleenex
  • I used my flats and extra deodorant, but that was it.

  • Maybe pack some snacks that have protein in it, like little packs of nuts or granola bars.  You never know if you or one of your BP will forget (or be too nervous) to eat and you don't want anyone getting woozy.

  • I made a kit with an extra bra and underwear, tums and Tylenol, bobby pins, safety pins, powder and lipgloss, several small tissue packets, stain remover, hair spray, pad of paper and a pen, $50 cash, tooth brush and tooth paste, gum and mints, sewing kit and lint roller, deodorant, lotion and a few more items I can't remember, but it filled a shoe box. I didn't use much but I think it was worth the effort just in case. One thing I did use was the $50 for an unexpected tip. Dancing flats and a list of all important phone numbers (bridal party & vendors)

I think the only thing I added in addition to the above was mini static guard, extra socks for men in case they forgot the ones that came w/tux (that was in men's bag) I did a men's bag and a girls bag. In the girls I also included tampons. Mouthwash, hand lotion, baby wipes (everything was travel size), bandaids, ponytail holder (3 of my girls had long hair & were wearing it down, thought it might be nice for later in reception). Oh yeah, extra earring backs, double sided sewing/hemming tape.

  • I'm planning on packing:

    Bobby pins
    Hair spray
    Face powder/blotting sheets
    chapstick/lipstick
    flats
    travel sized deodorant
mini toothbrush and tooth paste (because I'm really weird and brush my teeth a lot)
    Tide to go pen
my Epipen and benedryl just in case

I would pack extra pantyhose, Advil/Tylenol, laxatives, a sewing kit, cash, pens, pencils, Post-its, deodorant, brush, comb, foundation, lip gloss, makeup remover, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, Qtips, small package of Kleenex, sanitary pads/tampons, fruit/candy/energy or Granola bars, bottled water, and a folder with a copy of all signed contracts and documents that you might need in dealing with vendors.
  • Maggie0829, whatever works.  I've had to deal with that at very awkward times and my wedding definitely isn't a time I'd want to go through it.
  • Didn't have a day-of kit and didn't need one... I had all intentions of bringing one, honestly, but the week before the wedding was so insane that it just never happened. Immediately after the ceremony, I changed into flip flops. I grabbed a mint and a swig of water from the bottle in my purse (which was in the limo and stayed in the bridal suite all night). The day flew by and I just rolled with it all. The bottom of my dress got dirty (I'm assuming during pictures, but honestly, I didn't notice til I took it off that night) but I had no other dress issues. My hair started falling a little bit towards the end of the night, but by that time, our professional photog was done/gone and I really didn't care about looking "perfect" by the end. I keep Advil/Tylenol in my purse at all times, so that was there in case I needed it, but that's really it...

TBH, you don't "need" anything... It just depends on how "prepared" you want to be for anything that can happen...

  • I actually built my own emergency kit with everything I found in the pre-made kits you can buy online. Only needed hair spray at the end of the day.
  • I got married on a 95º day with high humidity. Things I definitely used:

-portable battery-operated fans for myself and BMs
-deoderant! I freshened up quite often
-powder for when my face got shiny
-double-sided tape. One of my BMs broke the strap on her dress and it did the trick
    -band aids
    -lots of bottled water!
    -safety pins
-those Colgate (or Crest?) whisps which are basically easily-portable toothbrushes
    -floss

  • I had a bag full of items just in case I would have needed them.

What I actually used from that bag...

    Immodium

    Shout wipe

    Safety pin

    Hairspray

    Bobby pins

    Deodorant

@Jen4948 just wondering and so not trying to be snippy, but why laxatives?  The last thing that I would want would be to have to shit multiple times while in my wedding dress.  Hell I took two immodium just to make sure that door was safely shut for the entire evening.

    I'm so doing this.
  • I got ready at a hotel and then went to the venue from there. I took nothing with me to the venue.

Awesome, thanks so much everyone! I bought a little emergency kit for old navy that had a sewing kit, clothing tape, safety pins and some other odds and ends. I will throw in some deodorant, flip flops and bobby pins and call it a day.

  • Maybe some Prego and a little parmesan?

  • Phone charger - great idea! I don't expect to be texting all evening, but I'd be pouty if it died.
