David's Bridal - Be Aware and Ask Questions

Hi, ladies,
Had I known a couple of things before I went to David's Bridal, I might have gone somewhere else.  Make sure you ask lots of questions because they sometimes think you already know things.  Some things I've learned ..
1. They don't ship dresses to their own stores. Even though they are a nationwide business, they will charge for that kind of service. I intentionally went to David's Bridal because I live in Virginia, but I wanted to dress shop with my mom in Ohio.  It wasn't until we had gone through the whole purchase process that I learned this little fact.  I was also buying it on a sale, so I went ahead with the purchase, but wouldn't recommend them if you are trying to do the same thing.
2. If a customer gets a David's Bridal credit card, she cannot make payments in the store... seems rather inconvenient to the bride if she is coming in for alternations and fittings ... just sayin'.
3. If you happen to have  alterations done on your dress and they are NOT done by David's Bridal, they won't do the steaming... I called my location three different times over the course of 6 months to make sure I planned properly and was told this wonderful little tidbit when I walked in to drop off my dress.
Anyway, just do your homework (like you have time to do that!)

Re: David's Bridal - Be Aware and Ask Questions

  • A ton of retail stores don't let you make payments inside the store and make you do it online. I used to work for Gap, and people complained to us all the time because we wouldn't take their credit card payments in the store. This policy actually protects you because it limits the number of random people handling your credit account.

And it totally makes sense that they wouldn't do a complimentary steaming if you didn't get alternations done by them. Steaming is usually considered part of the alterations process. I'm sorry they didn't warn you on the phone, however, that sucks.

  • I had a great experience at David's, but I knew they were sky high on alterations, so I went to someone else for that. It would never have occurred to me to take it back to David's to have it steamed. The shop I had the alterations done in handled that for me.

I don't know why not being able to make payments on the CC in the store would be an inconvenience. I would think it would be inconvenient if you could ONLY make payments in the store, but since when is being able to pay online an inconvenience?

I can see being annoyed with the shipping thing.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I don't think any of these reasons would deter me from buying a dress somewhere. Did you end up buying the dress? Was it beautiful?
