Curious

Is it wrong for me to want to wear a prom dress as my wedding dress? The dress I tried on a couple weeks ago (at my moms house) is a beautiful semi dark blue dress that fits my body perfectly. I dont really want to go the tradional white wedding gown. I plan on wearing a cowgirl hat with a veil attached to it and cowgirl boots. I am just wondering if its wrong of me to want something a lil different.

Re: Curious

  • Nope, not wrong at all! Though guests might criticize you, it's your wedding, do what you want!

You can do what you want. Its your wedding. Just make sure that what you decided is not going to be something that makes you go "what was I thinking" when you look at your pictures how ever many years from now.
  • Do what makes you happy.

I'm probably wearing a dress from Nordstrom that's a really, really dark navy (appears almost black).  I'm sure a lot of people will be confused by my choice, but it's not their choice to make.

    Officially hitched as of 10/25/13

  • In old times a woman getting married wouldnt buy a specialdress that was white ect. A woman getting married woukd go upstairs find their best dress put Iit on and get married outside or at their local church ect. Is a white dress the standard nowadays yes but isnt needed

It's not "wrong".   It's your wedding, you can wear whatever you want.  I will say this... I'm more concerned about the cowboy hat with a veil attached to it than I am a prom dress.  That honestly sounds horrible to me.  I would consider that something that sounds fun and quirky now, may not look so fun and quirky when you look back at your photos in a year, or a decade.

    This exactly.

OP, I understand you're going for a "country" look...but the hat with a veil reminds me of something that would end up on Awkward Wedding Photos. You don't have to be a cookie-cutter bride by any means, but some accessories can cause your wedding attire to look more like a novelty or costume.
