Removing the train from my dress

Just wondering if anyone here has had the train removed from their dress, and if so was it a big deal/expensive, or was it fairly straightforward?

I'm in love with my dress, it is the one for me, but with our first look photos and ceremony being outdoors (weather permitting), and the aisle being dirt and grass, I don't think the train would survive for long. It can be bustled, but I didn't like the look of the bustles I have seen, so I figured the most logical option would be to have the seamstress remove the train altogether.

For reference, this is my dress

  • ask your semstress what would look good or how much work it would be without the train. a good semstress can do almost anything to the dress it may end up costing you more money in the end. and a bustle might be the better option but talk with the semstress first,

Has your seamstress pinned up options of bustle types on your dress?  If not, I'd have her do it.  Sometimes seeing pictures and seeing it in person are quite different.  It's a beautiful dress and I think it would be a shame to chop off the train!
  • The idea of removing a train is almost physically painful to me (I'm a train fan), but that dress is a type that can be easily modified in the manner you are talking about.  It has a very simple hem that isn't covered in detail, and I don't see any overlays.

Talk it over with a seamstress, I'm not sure about the cost, but again this looks to be a fairly simple job that shouldn't cost a fortune. (granted, I can't tell everything just from the picture).

  • I'm also removing most of my train, and the seamstress said it was straightforward. I don't know what it cost since I haven't seen a bill yet, but I can't see it being crazy expensive or more than a bustle.
  • Don't dresses come ready to be bustled?? That's an added thing you have to have a seamstress do?!?!

Since there are so many bustle options out there you need to speak with your seamstress to see which bustle will work best for your dress.  So no, dresses do not already come with an added bustle.
