Boutiques Who Dont Frown at a $1000 Budget

Hey all! Searching for dresses & so far I have only been to Bijou Bridal (which was a great experience) and David's Bridal (which was a complete train wreck). My budget is $1000 (alternations & accessories NOT included) but I can not seem to find goo enough referrals for any locations. I am even willing to try NYC but then again all their prices via the websites have had me running away. Thanks in advance!!!

  • My gown was a little over that (just under $1500), but I think they had some things that were lower priced.  I Do, I Do in Morristown was really great throughout the whole process.

I bought my gown at East West Bridal in Secaucus. My budget was $1200, and I don't think I tried on a single dress over my budget. I'm a plus-sized bride, and they had a great selection of both plus and standard size gowns. I can't recommend them enough.

  • My budget was $1500 and I went to the Chrissy O's in Newton and The Wedding Store in Andover, NJ.  Had a great experience at both and had a LOT of dresses to try on.  Chrissy O's had a lot of dresses at the $1000 price point and lower.

  • RK Bridal in the city, La Belle Boutique in Jersey City. I would look up who sells Mori Lee or Casablanca in your area and go there bc those designers make gowns in your price range. Also, the dress store in Jersey Gardens mall has bridal gowns. It is downstairs near Off Saks.

  • I bought my dress at Jefre Bridal in Greenbrook. They were the third store I went to and the most helpful.  My budget was $1500 and I ended up with a gorgeous dress for $1200, INCLUDING alterations! I also talked them into giving me the bustle for free (it's usually $95). I've been there for two fittings since I purchased my dress (and they are always extremely helpful. The staff is very helpful and the seamstress is amazing!

  • Also second The Wedding Store in Andover (western NJ)! They had a lot of dresses in that price range which looked more expensive. That's where I got my dress. Did not have a good experience at Chrissy O's in Newton.

I second East West Bridal. My Mori Lee gown was $1020. They had many gowns in your price range. I did try on some over that because my budget was higher but they let me try on as many gowns as I wanted to and I took pictures also. I went on a Friday afternoon in May and had the whole place to myself. I was there for over 2.5 hours trying on gowns and they were more than happy to help me.

  • A few of the dresses that I tried on at Castle Couture in Marlboro were under $1000  Actually the one that I liked second to the one I bought was only like $950

Second for I Do, I Do. They have a great selection and the staff is so nice. I actually went twice because they were so helpful. Unfortunately I didn't find my gown there, but I loved my experience. Liatris is right about Davids... My sister just got her gown in Freehold and had a great experience. She went during the week which I think helps.

I would try a boutique that sells alfred angelo. Many of his dresses are under a $1000. I went to the signature store in cherry hill during a sale and I paid a little over $1300 for the dress, veil, and sash. The dress alone was orginally $1500.

  • Normally i would suggest cinderella bridal in Matawan, NJ but unfortunately they are closing soon since the owner has MS. :( I got my dress there for $800 and they were amazing.

However, since they are going out of business all their dresses are marked down 50% or more. It might be worth it to head over there.

I got my dress at Castle Couture and payed well under $1000.  You should also check out Russell's in Linden.  Their prices were great (many dresses we looked at were well under $1000) and alterations are included!

Chrissy O in Newton.  I thought the Wedding Store in Andover was way over priced; everything I tried on there was over $1,500.  Also try Sew & Sew in Lafayette.  Eneldas Happy Bride in Sparta at a huge selection at $1,100 but it included alterations so I'm thinking that's in your budget.

I got my dress at RK Bridal in NYC off the sale rack.  Cash & Carry -- $399.  Alterations which I had done somewhere else were $350.

  • I'd try Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth.  They had an awesome selection, the girls are great, and alterations are included.

    Or Arlene's Bridal in Bloomfield.

  • I guess between different people and different locations, everyone's experience can be different.  My FI just bought her dress this weekend at David's in Totowa.  She raved about the experience; lots to try on in our VERY modest price range, the help was wonderful, and she loves the dress.
  • I second I DO I DO. I went with a dress around 2K, but there were plenty of options around your budget. They are very accomodating.
  • You don't go shopping for a Mercedes with a Kia budget.
  • Get to RK Bridal in NYC... the prices really can not be beat due to how LARGE of an account they probably are for the designers.  It isnt a pampering boutique, it is moreso a huge bridal warehouse, so look on their site for things you have in mind.  You can try on 5 dresses at a time and they will work with any budget.  Alterations max out at 350 aaannndd since you live in NJ like me, if you ship it out of state (to NJ) there is no tax, just a flat $40 shipping fee.  Good luck!

Anyone know/use a store in North Jersey that carries Alfred Angelo and that they really liked? I don't believe I Do, I Do carries Alfred Angelo, right??

  • If you go to the Alfred Angelo website and use the store locator, it will give you a list of stores and which lines of AA they sell.  Very helpful!
