What to wear to try on Wedding Gowns

I know i need to bring nude panties and a strapless bra, but would it be completely ridiculous to wear comfortable clothes to try on the dresses? Or should I dress up a little bit. Obviously, I would make sure my makeup is done.

You won't ever be in the clothes you came in...so I'm sure it's fine to wear whatever you want.

Most salons give you a robe to put on in between dresses, anyways.

Bring shoes in the heel height you want to wear (if you don't have your wedding shoes already). Also bring a hair tie or clip if you think you'll be wearing your hair up.

OP, please change your font. Its hard to read.

Make sure you wear underwear that you are comfortable having a stranger see you in. I wore a thong and strapless bra and it was a bit awkward when the sales lady was helping me into the dresses. I didnt worry about bringing shoes. I am short (5'2") and knew my dress would need to be hemmed regardless of heel height.

  • Make sure you're comfortable with the coverage your panties give you. One store let me linger around in my bra and panties with the consultant for a while.

I think I just wore a jersey dress when I went shopping because it was easy to throw on and off. It doesn't matter what you wear.

You really don't need to bring a strapless bra even....the salons I went to (including David's) had them there as well as slips, etc. I wore jeans and a tshirt dress shopping....and flip flops.

I guess I suggested shoes, as I always have to bring them! I'm 5'8...so regular length clothing can run too short on me depending on the shoes! :-)
  • In addition to what PPs said, wear your strapless bra (as opposed to just bringing it with you) to avoid strap marks; they can be distracting. I wore strapless sundresses (with built-in bras) to all my appointments. They super comfy and easy to get on and off too!

  • I wore bike shorts (since I knew I'd be wearing spanx under my dress) and a strapless bandeau bra. It worked great. It also made the dresses easier to slip on and off over my hips (my largest area) and I didn't mind if anyone else happened to catch a peek of me in my dressing room.

  • If you have big boobs, I would recommend bringing your own long-line bra if you have one (i would NOT got out and buy one though).  I wear a 38 DDD and the bras they gave me to try on were a JOKE.  It really affected how the dresses fit.  This happened to me both at Davids and an upsale local store.
