FB relationship status change during ceremony

I just read this short news clip in the free metro paper today. It says there's a YouTube video of it too, but I can't get to that site at work. Crazy and sad at the same time.

It's the first paragraph.

Wow - I would kill him.  And, yes - that is sad.

It's kind of kooky, but I think that it was probably meant to be a joke between the couple.  If I had a techie husband who I complained was always on FB/twitter, I think it would actually be hilarious!

Yea, but it says it was a surprise to the bride too. I think it's different if they're both in on it, but to just whip out your phone?!

Oh, I meant that I thought it was supposed to be a surprise, like, for the bride.  I think that normal non-techie people would be like, uhhhh, weird.  If my DH did this, it would be weird.  But it could have not been weird to them!  KWIM?  I didn't really read the article so I don't know the specifics, but I think it could be really funny depending on the couple.

Edit- Hmm, I thought of a better way to explain this.  A lot of younger kids are like, attached to their phones.  Actually, my boss is too.  They never set them down, are constantly on FB or twitter, and people notice and will often times comment on how frequently they check their phones.  If he's one of those people, which I suspect he is, it's kind of cute and quirky.  I totally wouldn't take it as being serious.

Yeah, my guess is it matched his/their personality or relationship.  I know some people that live on FB and I would not even be surprised if they did this.

Ugh, this makes me a little twitchy- like it's not the time or place for Twitter, of all things!  But I totally understand how it could be funny for the right couple or audience.  I find it annoying more than anything else, though I feel that way about Twitter generally, haha :)

Like PP said, could be funny with the right people. I think with the wrong guests more people would be left wondering WTH is going on.

I saw a clip of this on Yahoo last night.  On our wedding day, as my dad handed me off to DH and we stepped up to the alter, DH pulled out his cell phone and I whispered to him...calling someone?  All his friends/family were standing in church with us, really?!  But he was just turning he off his phone.   The bridal party got a good laugh at it after the ceremony was over.

I saw this and hated it. The guy is trying to be funny, but it is sooo not. Especially if she wasn't in on it. How awkward for her. Boo to this!
